Out and about today on the bike my wife and I saw not one but three cats laying in the gutters. One of them even had a collar. All of them had been hit by cars, all were dead. I didn't like seeing that in the least.

When we arrived home we walked into the trailer to be greeted by Squeek. She was waiting by the door. I didn't push her away as I normaly do, instead I reached down and picked her up. She curled into my arms and purred as I scratched her. She also reached up and batted at the chin strap hanging from my helmet.

All of the cats received their share of loving from us, even Smokey our oldest and most standoffish. The only one who didn't get a scratch was Magi. He was too proud, he stayed away. (Magi is my favorite by the way.)

After we had put things away and hung up our jackets it was nap time. I set my alarm for a half hour snooze before sitting down. I kicked back the recliner and tossed a blanket over me.

AS I ley back here comes Magi. He walks by with his nose and tail in the air. He acts like he's ignoring me but I know better. As lay back in my recliner I feel a thump as a cat hits the chair. When I look it's Magi. He's standing on the foot rest of the chair and looking at me. When he sees me looking at him he meows and starts walking towards me. He stops just out of reach and sits there looking at me. This is a game we play.

After a few minutes of this I act like I'm giving up and stretch my hands over my head like I'm taking a snooze. Now he moves. He slinks up to my shoulders and stops there while I give him a scratch. After a bit of this he decides what he wants to do. Sometimes he stretches out on my chest under the blanket with his head resting just below my chin and sometime he curls up alongside my head. Today he stretches out on my chest. I snooze out with the feel of his head under my chin and his purr rattling in my chest.

When my alarm goes off half an hour later he's still there. He's been joined by one of his sisters, Scrapper is curled up around the top of my head. Both of them sit up and look at me as I fumble around finding and shutting off the alarm. When I look over at my wife laying on the couch she has been joined by Squeek and Bubba.

Sometimes having pets is a pain in the ass but times like this make it all worth while.

Cat

Yes, those moments are what having pets is all about. The last few days my cat has just been staring at me as I eat. It's weird, but at least he hasn't bitten me in a while.

Thanks for the reminder. It's something to think about when the little black one, Doc, jumps on me with no warning at the worst possible time.

Earlier today my husband and I went to Lowe's and bought the piece of greenboard to put in the bathtub ceiling. (Yeah, I know, we should have finished this long ago, but I was just dreading it so, and last weekend we were out of town). So when we got home we tried to put it in the hole and it wasn't nearly as easy as we'd expected. Here we are raising it up over our heads and trying to get it in place, wrestling it past the showerhead and the shower rod (which doesn't even have an actual rod in it) when suddenly, Doc turns up from nowhere and jumps on my shoulders, rather clumsily, as I have this piece of greenboard on my head. Fortunately my subsequent moves startled him away.

We're cutting the sucka in half, as soon as we round up some work gloves and dust masks. My husband said that even handling the whole piece we brought home made his hands itch.

I love my cats and dog. Back around 2002 I was dating a woman who didn't like dogs. She began making rules for mine to follow if/when she were to move in. Well, he's still here with me; she's not.
