Hi all, I wanted to ask for some advice.

Someone brought this to my attention: parts of my story(s) Good Girl vs. Slut have been plagiarized on another website.
Here's the link to it:
http://www.masala4india.com/showthread.php?t=76509

And here's my profile:
http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=974257&page=submissions

To be honest, my first reaction was laughing out loud. Apparently the forum is supposed to be erotica geared toward Indian people, so what the person did is take my story and change most of the names to Indian-sounding ones. They actually did an okay job of it cause the name changes stay consistent through all the chapters they took. Anyway, I thought that was pretty hilarious.

But then I started thinking if I should do something about it. There's no credit to me, obviously. Does this sort of thing happen a lot? Should I try do anything, or just let it be? Any advice would be appreciated...much thanks =)

If this Web site traces back to India, no, there's nothing you can do about it but try to bluff them into taking it off the site, if you want to try that. There's no leverage over them except whatever misunderstanding they might have of what you can effectively do to them. Welcome to the "if you don't want it to be bastardized and repainted all over the Internet, don't put it on the Internet to begin with" world.

Some of my stories are used to publicise Japanese Teenage Anal Fisting...

Why?

One weird site even uses one of my How-To essays as a come-on for extreme BDSM.

All they want is words that will appear on a search engine.

Copyright? They've never heard of it. Most even include my copyright notice.

Og

PS. Just googled "copyright oggbashan" again. One result is headed Winnie The Pooh Sex Winnie spongebob squarepants sex.

Oh, you must be so proud!

Unfortunetely it seems the internet is the modern day uncontrollable wild west.

I just hope this sort of thing doesnt stop people posting

Whatever's good gets plagiarized.

A while back one of local judge's wrote a column in the paper, some of his comments seemed familair, and I checked further.

Well, he lifted some things from Shakespeare with no attribution or even quotation marks..nuthin. In fact, the judge lifted a large paragraph from an essay that used the Shakespeare quote.

So I sent the Shakespeare quote to the editor, but nothing more happened; I didnt even get a note from the editor.

Yes, this happens constantly. There must be over a hundred of my stories out there on pirate sites. There are probably tens of thousands of stories stolen fom Lit. authors and posted on such places. There are dozens of threads decrying these facts. Sometimes we can get something done about it, but not very often.

First China and now India.....damn, does intellectual property mean nothing to people?

hmm okay...well I guess I'll just take it as a compliment then. Thanks everyone for your help. I still think it's hilarious imagining someone reading through my story and trying to come up with Indian sounding names for all the characters.

also, thanks oggbashan for ruining Winnie the Pooh for me =P I guess that's why he doesn't wear pants...?
