Day Without a Gay

I didn't do anything. Can't afford to. I'm a working class gay person, I guess...I can't afford a day off.

However, I note that "Day without a Gay" was about as successful as 2004's "Pink Flu Day" - which nobody even remembers. As powerful as the gay dollar is, we won't really make an impact unless something really big happens. A day just isn't enough. If we didn't show up to work, and didn't spend any money, for a week? That would be on the news. But a day isn't enough.

It was a cute idea, but it had been done before, and it wasn't very successful either time. Maybe in the future it will be on par with the Day of Silence performed by many schoolchildren.

Not spending for a week would be useless as you would use the other 51 weeks to spend...

It would have been so funny if Gay Day was today. We had snow for the first time in 8 years, many businesses were closed and people didn't go to work. Is this a new tradition? I never heard of a 'A day without a gay.'

It was invented just a couple of weeks ago, it's only publicized on the Internet, and I doubt it will happen again next year. As I mentioned earlier, this has been done before. In 2004 it was called Pink Flu Day. This one was prompted by the passing of Proposition 8.

Here's the original Lit thread from which I found out about the original Pink Flu Day - note the date:
