Someone stole my story.

Most stories there link back to Literotica, those that don't have been stolen and submitted there. PM Laurel about it and she will take care of it for you.

Omg, don't make me do a Dolly Parton cover song again, cause you know I will. :D

Jolene, Jolene....

A heap of mine are there, too ( incomplete and horribly formatted ) under my name, and under another name.

I just went through and added a comment to every single one of them pointing anyone who stumbles across them back to Lit for the full, authorized versions.

mine are there too. I forgot how good they are.

All mine are there too, but when you click on the title it links back to Lit.

Most of what you find actually does link back to Lit, but once you dig deeper into the pages, you may find your stuff posted on the server of that website. It's supposed to be an erotic search engine, but it does have content on the servers, and all of it seems to be stolen from Lit.

They have all of Kim and Me and of Kim, Lynn, and Me there. They even have one of my very first attempts at erotic writing from Kristen's Archive. All of them are correctly attributed, down to my public email address. Well and good.

But they've also got a bunch of stories that AREN'T mine attributed to my name. Flattering, I suppose, but it ain't my stuff and it's not even my genre. How weird!!

And yeah, they're clearly fuckin' slimeballs.

Digital Rights Management?

I was wondering if anyone had any expierence with protection of e-books and if it worked?

I've been researching .pdf encryptors all day and found one package that sounds like it was made for e-book publishing.

Still checking it out and have to take the OL out for dinner so haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I'll add it to this thread after I test it tomorrow.

My two are there as well

Wow I didn't realize I was "good" enough to be stolen.

Ask Jolene is a search site. I didn't like the fact that my stories were linked to their site when I posted to Lit so I wrote an email requesting that they remove my name from their index.

I was answered in a timely fashion in which they referred me to "fair use guidelines" and undercut my argument. So, as long as they're linked back to you as the original copyright holder, no problem.

The only guy in this thread that was actually ripped off, so far, from what I can tell, is Boota.

champagne1982

Thank you for the information. Mine were under my name so I guess it is nothing major

How'd you lot find your stories?

It'd be great to find they'd ripped mine off, but I don't know how to tell...

I did the same as Darkniciad

i went to the link Boota gave, took off the past part so it was just http://stories.askjolene.com, clicked on the stories tab and did a search for my handle as well as the story title. Mine were there however they were under my handle unlike the original OP

Um.

So apparently I have the opposite problem.

I searched for my handle and found stories there that most certainly aren't mine. Mine are there, too, but mixed in are rather a lot of others I've never seen before.

I find that very upsetting, actually.

Boxlicker had the same issue. Now I remember that it was him who brought it up before. He had a bunch of his, and a bunch of random stories from other authors attributed to him.

Whoa! If another site has your stories, it's a copyright violation and you can sue.
No ifs ands or buts.
If the site merely lists your titles which cannot be copyrighted, you have no comeback.
If the site is a link to your stories at Literotica, there is no current case law that I know of that protects you. An e-book encrypter probably won't help.

In before SR71!

Actually, unless you have a filed copyright with the copyright office in the U.S., you have no legal recourse in a U.S. court of law.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

It rather pisses me off

to see my stories posted somewhere that I never have been!!!!
Thank you, Boota. I wondered when this would happen. My name is still on the stories but it's really creepy that I never submitted them on that site. I'm not shocked, nor am I surprised, but I'm pissed.............

welcome to the Internet.

Holy crap! There's 18 of my stories on that AskJolene site and they all link back to Lit. My handle's on all of 'em too. I suppose I should be flattered. I really don't understand why someone would go to the trouble to do something like this. Sell advertising?
