The way I've done it is opened a window editing your first post, then have another window open to browse through your thread and copy the link location of the attachment. Then just use the "Insert Link" tool (or write the HTML into the message) to create a link and description of the photo you're linking.

Voila, index!

Click "OK" and the link will appear in the edit area. Almost done!! In the newly created link some text will be highlighted (by default it is the URL of your link). Delete this text and replace it with a description of the pic. If it doesn't highlight for you, it's the 2nd occurrence of the URL in the link text.
