What's the difference between the two re: job stability/future income/career growth?

I don't think there is a lot of growth involved. I'm uneducatedly going to say that a paramedics job is the more stable one. In demand and not many around here.

I agree. Other than that, I can't really advise, since I don't know much about either.

Then again I can fly through EMT school with what i already know and it is only a few months long and costs less. *sigh*

Would the EMT certification shorten the schooling for being a paramedic? Perhaps there's a two-stage approach that might work for you.

A place I've finally reached, [about] myself, after far too many years thinking otherwise - you're worth the additional investment. Don't cheap out on you.

I imagine it would be tempting for the quickest way. Consider what will make you happier in the long run though like everyone else is saying.

go for the paramedic, you'll have more job opportunities

if you stick with the EMT don't just stay at BLS get ALS or Cardiac Tech

...best wishes on whichever you decide:)

If you are good with people that are hurting and scared, in that first moment of the emergency situation; the paramedic position is more stable and profitable. But you need to make sure that you are able to handle anything at all, such as blood gushing out, burnt bodies, bodies that are literally in pieces; and those pieces still quivering; before choosing to be a paramedic.

If you prefer something that is just a very little bit more calmer, then EMT's don't deal with quite as much of the initial rush of the people being scared, or the situations that paramedics deal with. And it doesn't pay quite as well.

But go with what is best for your future, your happiness, and your bank account.

Guts and gore and sickness and people in pain do not effect me in a negative way. Not sure why, but thats how it is for me.

Then it seems like Paramedic would be your best choice, and with the better pay; it will help pay off any student loans that may be building up.

Good luck on your choice.

I voted more school more pay. It's dangerous work, let's be honest. One should only do work that puts them at risk for the MOST possible buck, IMO. EMT's get it too, charred dead people are less worrisome than criminal elements who want to attack you and have the means to do it. I never really thought about this much but I know people who train EMT's in personal safety procedures, prior to that I guess I was just one more oblivious person who thinks everyone's happy to see the ambulence and help is there.

You've got my admiration, I know you have what it takes to do either, and it's another great unsung helping job.

I voted paramedic. For the same reasons CM said. If both will make you happy, and the paramedics make more money and have more job security . . . :D
