I Voted!

Good for you! I don't know how you voted and even if it was not as I would have, the important thing is that you did.

Yeah, I voted for my guys, too, Obama, Biden, and Senator Kerry.

Then, I voted to end the Massachusetts income tax, to only give a $100 fine when caught with less than an ounce of Mary Jane, and to end Greyhound racing.

I gave the woman who asked my street address and name my telephone number, too. She was cute...for an 85-year-old. Gee, I hope she calls me.

You're all making me feel guilty! I can't vote in the US and I vote in the UK every time they let me!

You mean you didn't become an American citizen in order to vote? :D

I don't want to make anyone feel guilty. Actually, I'd rather make everyone feel jealous ;)

The atmosphere out there is awesome. The last few times I've voted both in local and national elections the polling places have been lightly attended, the mood somber, like it's a duty and a chore, like those voting didn't believe it was going to make any difference. Not today. There were long lines, chatter, excitement. People seemed to feel that it was a privilege. More, they came across as feeling like voting really empowered them. And everywhere in my city you see encouragement to vote--free donuts, free appetizers, half-priced hair-cuts if you're wearing an "I voted" sticker. And those wearing the sticker give each other the thumbs up.

It's been one of the roughest campaigns I've ever seen, but one of the best election days on record, at least for me. People want to vote, and they feel honored to vote, and they get, if only this one time around, what it means to be able to vote.

I don't want campaigns to be this divisive again, but I do hope future elections are this well attended and enthusiastic. I hope this is the beginning of a new, national trend in voting.

Just got word from friends in the Midwest who had to wait 2 & 1/2 hours to vote! I assume (and hope) that's from voter turn-out not problems. If so, you begin to see what I mean. Not only the unprecedented lines, but also the willingness to wait long hours to have their say.

I am proudly wearing my "I voted" sticker on the front of my nightgown! :D
(Amy wouldn't even let me stay out of bed long enough to make lunch!)

You betcha! ;)

I waited an hour for a ballot, turnout was amazing for this little township.

The hubbie went off to vote (kids were home, so we tag-teamed). He waited an hour and a half.

Neither of us got a sticker though.

Yep, in all 4 voters in this household this election, 2 of them first time voters.

Very smooth and easy, we voted at an elementary school.

The only disturbing thing was the odd memories brought on by the aroma of cafeteria food.

So did your pick win, of can you now say "Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy"?

We didn't really have any good choices to pick from, in my opinion. Well, at least none that would've been able to win. Just like in America, the Liberals and Conservatives take the majority of the votes. And their leaders are almost always douche bags.

Yep, once in my home precinct and this afternoon in a couple of others. :)

It's Chicago! You vote a couple of time every election!

Just joking. About the multiple voting thingy.

I'm on my way now. I don't know what kind of a wait I'm in for, but I will wait patiently. Battery is charged on my cell so at least I can play Texas Hold'em or Yahtzee if the lines are really long.

And not that I needed it, but I will be taking advantage of the cool offer any Michigan Starbuck's is offering right now. A free coffee if you voted! How cool!

New polling place this time around, too, so it'll be interesting to see how things are handled.

Min did her postal vote weeks ago, but is rather peeved that she didn't get her usual postal ballot 'I voted' sticker.

I would dearly have loved for us to have been able to extend our visit so she could be there for today, but it couldn't be.

How about everyone who voted posting a copy of their sticker on here, it could be an interestingly artistic thread, as she tells me that every state has a different sticker.

If there's any arizona voters out there who have a sticker, can you please post a copy of it so I can let the wife have her sticker.

Please??

Would be even cooler if they handed out fresh coffee to people waiting in line to vote. :)

No sticker for me. I requested my absentee ballot in March. The Registrar of Voters could send me voting guides and sample ballots, but never an actual ballot. When I complained a few weeks ago, they e-mailed me a ballot and I faxed it back. No sticker, no lines, no coffee, and no secret ballot. At least I did get to vote, and they sent an e-mail confirmation that they received it.

At the Catholic Church where I voted they offered coffee--and left over Halloween candy :)
