There's a program on VH1 - Sex...with Mom & Dad. No it not about incest, it's about discussing sex and sexuality with you children. Dr. Drew is the psychologist and gets parent and their teenage children to talk candidly about sex. It's a fairly decent show.

As for sexy TV causing pregnancy...I doubt it. My brother got his girlfriend pregnant and it wasn't because of The Andy Griffith Show. Aunt Bee was hawt!

And Twinkies don't turn people into killers. But tomatoes do.

As said in prior posts, it's the parents fault for not wanting to be parents.

1- lack of information
2 - lack of accessible contraception
3 - Boredom - there is no concession made for teenagers in current society - no youth groups or organised activities that are able to engage them
4 - Lack of self-worth. Some teenage girls think that having a baby will give them purpose, someone to love them or, even, the security of a home of their own.

TV is just a distraction from real life, not a pattern for it.

There is a lot of sex in sitcoms, but never any discussion of birth control, particularly on network TV - not even commercials and ad's for birth control that you do see on the cable network channels.

This is where the choice issue get's stupid: the pro life faction is as vehemently against birth control as anything else, in fact the issue comes down to premarital sex specifically, and they're just as stubborn about it if not more.

And that comes from ignorance of just what statistics really say. If we spent less time teaching algebra and more time teaching life-math, the nation would benefit greatly. Of course, universities might have to acknowledge that they're completely out of touch with reality, too . . .

I'm with VM. Teach them how to objectively evaluate information and they grow up to be much better informed adults.

Tv has to be one of many factors. Can't blame it all on the networks, particularly as shows have ratings and time slots. Those ratings are based on community standards, and some of that community must be parents also

Good point, I should have thought of it - I haven't ever gotten hot myself watching any of the shows mentioned that I recall, of course I'm not a teenager anymore.

When I was, the only show I ever remember making me hot was "Wonder Woman" and there wasn't even any sex in it - something about Lynda Carter in that Red White and Blue costume - wonder what they'd say about that? Then there was Lindsay Wagner in "The Bionic Woman", and I had a thing for Lilly Munster for a while - man, no wonder I'm all fucked up.
