Porn as humiliation

Today I read an interesting article from a local feminist about a new porn flick figuring a sarah palin look alike.

She then went to draw (predictable) parallels about men's anxiety on the fact that a woman might soon be vice-president or even (judging by the appearance of maccain on some pictures) president of the mighty USA, and the porn flick. (Ok, she said leader of the whole universe, but let's not digress.)

The little romp, in her view was a way to "demean" Palin, proving she is just a woman, a "hole" that could be filled (ugh) and with that, the world order is restored. Men are more powerful. Now we are in the Middle East, women are really suffering here, so perhaps her points are more valid if one looks at the local reality.

While the article in itself was refreshing, I realized I haven't thought of porn as demeaning in a long while. I assumed that men go look at porn for the same reason I do , cause it makes them feel funky. I haven't thought of sex as a loss of power in a really long time. (Ok,there is BDSM, but that is something completely different).

A movie with a Palin look-alike was made, IMHO, simple because she is the hot new commodity. She sells.

So, what to you think of the feminist's views?

yeah, you just knew some feminist would say something like that.

And some other feminist will disagree.

And then all the anti-feminists will demand that one or the other of them be The Boss of All Feminism, because all us women demand the same things, don't we?

What-- we don't?

Seriously. If it was not for lit  I'd be feeling like a freak all over again.

She talked like my mother.

Was it demeaning to men in general when Hustler did the Falwell spoof in print back in the days?

Is there any difference between that and the Palin spoof now?

You mean you hadn't noticed?

We ARE the Zoo. We are the inmates, freaks all.

Ask any fundamentalist Christian - we're damned, damned, they say...

So is everyone else in the world who doesn't follow their skewed interpretation of the Bible so we're not alone.

Dworkinism will never die.

Sorry, you've triggered this peeve of mine, which is only periferal to your point;

It's quite irritating that scholarly folk who really ought to know better, can't see the distinctions between schools of thought as promulgated by different women.
We call 'em "Marxism", Fruedianism, Platonicism-- we don't lump every single male ideologist into one "maleism" label.

In 1976 - 1980, when I was in college, feminism was a force that helped women to reclaim their sexuality from the "nice girls don't" myth. Being a feminist meant taking responsibility for yourself and your actions, meant refusing to stay in the box that society wanted to put all women into, meant breaking new ground by taking risks.

Finding that feminism in the modern day is most strongly identified with the anti-sex and anti-freedom-of-speech movements makes me want to vomit my guts out.

No one who is in favor of either sexual repression or censorship has any right to claim that she speaks for all feminists. (I'm tempted to say that she doesn't have any right to call herself a feminist at all, but then she might say that about me. *sigh*)

Clearly, some porn is demeaning and some folks find it all demeaning. But the author is way overstating it here. I think you have it right, Maharat; they're simply capitalizing and pushing product.

I had no idea my novel-in-the-works was still so current. What balderdash some academics spew!

I got mostly the anti-sez part. It became a way to polarize and even control, yes, control women!

Kind of, real femininists don't ... LOL

It makes me feel divided about a subject where my full support is necessary. Feminist came to embody a host of things that I can't abide. I feel like I am riding in its gains and unable to embrace its cause

I think some people find power sexy... most people, even. Powerful men get idolised, why not powerful women? As long as the porn wasn;t particularly demeaning in itself (she wasn;t getting defecated on, was she?) then there is no reason to see it as trying to demean her. IMHO

I've caught part of that Palin porn, it's not demeaning, unless you happen to be a big breasted blondish dumbish woman and don't like admitting it.

I haven't watched all of it, it's posted to I think it's Tube8, looks to be in the entirety, 58 minute posting of the thing anyway. What I've seen she is home alone and two russian tank crewmen knock on her door, they come in explain what happened, they crashed into the pipeline and then they have sex. At least I think that is how it works, I was just curious to see what happens so skipped ahead and didn't have the sound up.

I beleive it's called Who's Naylin Paylin? It's not demeaning unless you happen to think porn is demeaning, because it so far as i watched was your standard porn, some dumb thing to get the performers into the same place having sex, then they have sex, change positions alot, moaning groaning and cumshots.
