I just got up from eight solid hours of sleep. This is the fourth night in a row it has happened and I love it.

And I just figured out why.

I haven't read a newspaper in days. I've avoided the political and philosophical threads hear and elsewhere. I don't watch TV as you well know.

So I go to bed and my gut and mind aren't churning with fear and anger.

Nice. :)

That sounds lovely.

I had a similar experience last weekend, went on a news lockdown, refused to watch. It was lovely.

It's important to decompress occasionally. There's been a lot of disturbing things in the news lately and a lot of rancor, but there will always be that because it sells papers and draws in viewers. Occasionally I have to push myself away from the computer and take my dog for a walk. The economy has tanked before and there have been elections in the past, but the world keeps on turning...

I have called a personal moratorium on all news at the moment. Instead, I am writing a lot and feeling much better for it. I'm also sleeping like a baby (which was not the case last weekend). Mwah, Rob! Keep on keepin' on, baby.

Funny how that works, eh?
I almost never watch the news...too depressing and quite franky it breeds fear and negativity.

Here is to a good night sleep!
:nana:

I think I've decided that for the next couple of months, I'm going either going to walk out of the room or tell people at work to quit talking news around me. I've already stopped watching and reading the news, but I'm spending too many of my days being upset too. :(

Funny how what makes you churning with fear and anger, makes me mentally stimulated and entertained instead.

Different strokes and stuff. But do your thing. Whatever works for you. I promise not to talk politics with you. :)

I used to agree with that sentiment Liar, but it stopped being entertaining for me a couple of weeks ago. I wish Rob would have done this then, so that I could have learned by his example earlier (*snerk* hear that Rob - You are a good example for prenant lesbians! Muahahaha!)

So no more political threads, no more reading and getting pissed off at trolls like JBJ & LJ and no more news until the elections are done and over.

Somebody PM me if Obama is suddenly discovered to be a communist, muslim, child molester. Otherwise I don't want to know.

Thanks Rob, you good role model you!

P.S. lesbiaphrodite, Selena & Katyusha you guys are good role models in your own right too.

There was a study done quite a few years ago indicating that people who watch more than 6 hours of television a week were strongly inclined to view the world as far more dangerous than actual statistical analysis showed it to be. Given how the overall level of media discourse has declined since then I wonder if we're more accurately informed if we're totally uninformed! :D

I cannot talk my sister out of listening to talk shows.

She cannot rise out of her depression.

Me, I tend to stay away from the news, except that this election seems too important-- but I have to force myself to pay no attention for days at a time, if i want to keep my sanity-- such as it may be...

For some people, who can't deal with that garbage, it's very much like having toxic relationships. I'm a very detatched kind of person and live in my own little fantasy world, so I can handle it to a point and then I just zone out to a happy place.
