I'm sure this question has been asked several times before, but I couldn't find it anywhere. The bank just shut off my lines of credit and I need to find a way to make more money or go bankrupt. I haven't written any erotica in awhile and have been busy writing a suspense novel, that I hope one day I can get published, but in the meantime, I thought I could use my writing skills to make enough money to help me get by. My son has autism, and I can't afford his care any more, and don't want to have to put him in the free classroom where the teachers put on TV all day and never lift a finger to help make him better. Please help me!

I know I could write better stuff than I wrote before, but I can't spend any time on it unless it would be profitable, so I have to ask for recommendations on how I can make some money doing it. I've heard there are sites out there that e-publish this stuff and that if you are good, and develop a fan base it can be very profitable, but I can't seem to find them in my searches and wouldn't want to get hooked up with the wrong one. Any help would be very much appreciated. You can either post responses here or shoot me a PM if you don't want everyone to see. Thanks!

If you're looking for an immediate solution, you'd be better off flipping burgers, to tell you the truth. It takes time and effort to build up a fan base, and that's AFTER you publish several books. The more books you have, the bigger your backlist, so to speak, the more you'll sell, and the more fans you'll draw in. But that takes time. Most of the epublishers out there that pay the most (and you can check them out on Piers Anthony's site) have a backlog of submissions and are set on their publication through 2009 already!

Thanks! I'll check out those sites. At least if I knew I could make some money in the future doing it it would help. In the meantime I'm considering a third job working over night a few days a week, then I can write when things are slow. Sleep is overrated anyways.

I wrote some of my best stuff under a cloud of chronic fatigue. To this day I get horny when I get tired... ;)

Thinking about writing for money is never a good solution to an immediate financial crisis. First, if you haven't already written something to sell, you'll starve before you do. Second, in order to reach the "receiving money" stage--even if you prove to be good enough at it to be paid for it--you have to invest a lot of time and money up front. Third, no, there's not that much to be made at it for, say, the first ten to fifteen years, even if you're really good at it.

It won't be profitable. You want profitable, pose for erotic pictures or videos (not joking!). That is profitable. Erotic writing can make you some pocket change, but it's not going to be that magical windfall you're after. And even if you make some money, it's not going to be reliable. There will be no monthly paycheck to count on, no health benefits, bonuses or sick leave. Hardly a good way to provide for your son.

Betting on any kind of writing solving your financial problems is the same as buying a lottery ticket. You've no idea if you'll win anything, and if you do win something, how much you'll win.

He does have some nice abs! :D

So do you sexy mama!! I would actually totally do that, but keeping my erotica writing a secret from my wife is hard enough. I don't think shooting a porn would be kept a secret. I do have this idea for some great porn that involves married men and women fucking with masks on, so there identities would be kept a secret. It's like the forbidden fruit thing. Could be really hot, especially if it wasn't like the crappy porn most people put out.
