This thread is imagined in modern day New York. But while it looks and feels the same as the New York we know today, there is a difference. In this New York, there are witches and warlocks. They mut hide their identities for fear of being discovered and persecuted simply because they are different from normal humans. They are genetically compatible with humans since they are indeed humans, just slightly different genetically. There is no way to tell a witch from a regular human unless they publicly use their abilities.

They use magic, limited only by (you guessed it) supplies of mana. To regenerate mana, the witches and warlocks must either wait for it to regenerate slowly over time, or they may drink solutions of artificial mana. Such solutions are good for a quick boost in order to cast a spell or two, but they weaken the overall power and effectiveness of spells cast with the artificial mana.

Unlike worlds such as Harry Potter and the like, there is NO place for the witches and warlocks to study and train in the use of their abilities. They must seek out other older, more experienced witches and warlocks to further teach them about their abilities.

Witches and warlocks live about three times as long as humans, their physical bodies aging in the same fashion, three times as slow. Therefore, a witch that is 45 will still look 15, a witch that is 60 will look 20, a witch that is 75 will look 25, ect, and so on. Witches are capable of suffering from any of the same diseases as humans are, though they may use their magic (if properly trained) to heal themselves. They do so at extreme risk though. Each time they heal themselves through magic (over natural means), they effectively age their body almost ten years. This said, healthy witches can live for a long time, but those plagued with disease can significantly lower their life expectancies if they use magic healing often. Witches may use such magics to heal humans if necessary, but normal humans suffer the same drawback.

Witches are not bound by any codes, and may or may not use their powers for good. Some may simply refuse to ever use their abilities to hide their existence, and others may use their abilities to support a life of crime or simply become killers. Witches also use their powers for greater purposes depending on the witch itself. Some witches and warlocks specialize in ice magic, water magic, fire magic, mental magics, electrical magics, transformation magics... Whatever they were taught by their mentor witches. Witches are all capable of using all types of magic, it's just that they may show affinity for some types over others they may not be so good at.

Recently, in this world, through the combined orders of a fearful mayor of New York and a bold (possibly foolish), chief of the NYPD, an order has been given that all witches must nevermore use their abilities or they will be locked away or killed. This has forced many witches to hide their identities and to do everything they can to blend into society.

I will play a detective in the New York Police Department who has been tracking a suspected female witch who has been implicated in the killing of a wealthy business man. He believes he has all the evidence he needs to convict her, but she has eluded capture so far. He believes it will only be a matter of time before he can finally arrest her.

Is she innocent? Guilty? Will other witches or normal humans become involved? Will they? Only time will tell...

If you are interested in playing the role of the witch being pursued, please PM me. Also, PM me if you'd like to create an additional role that might be involved in this story somehow.

It's an interesting idea, though perhaps a bit ... complex ... on first sight?

Maybe invite discussion in an OOC thread as the way it's presented, it seems to need more than a one-on-one cast?

Perhaps post it again under OOC/Casting Call heading?

Just a suggestion ...

I have had the problem in the past, of players abusing abilities without strong constraints to ensure that they do not. By the way, I tried to be a bit more open ended with my latest thread and it's still made no difference to anyone.

Had three or four people PM me to say witches suck here. So...

Also, it feels like there should be a direction to this. I mean all these witches/locks are effectively in hiding right? And there isn't any schools of magic or warlock only BBQ's, so whats going to bring the characters together, and what are they going to do from there on.

I explained that. There are probably underground mettings of witches that happen all the time. And if the witches want to learn to use their abilities, they have to SEEK OUT another witch who is older and is likely to know how to use their abilities. Just because the witches have to be careful about using their powers doesn't men that they never will.

There will always be rebellious witches that will continue to use their abilities because they resent the order placed on them. As always, when the world turns to a totalitarian bent, there will be resistance fighters.

I can't imagine that every witch is blindly submitting to the order.

Do you have any players who have said they'll definitely participate so far?

Would you please explain how you want the dynamic between the female witch main character and the NY Detective to develope?

I would be interested in playing the female with a bit more direction and a lot more sexual interaction. (smiles) ~kyrie~
