Wait for the poll and tell us what form(s) you want to practice. If you don't see a form that interests you in the list, write it in in the thread! And if you feel you have expertise or could help teach a particular form, this would be the time to speak up. :)

Whichever form gets the most votes will be up next.

Wait for the poll!

PS: You can vote for as many forms as you like; I allowed for multiple choices when I set up the poll. After five days, we'll see what we have and do the classes in order of the votes they get.

If you have any questions or comments, please put em here. :)

I thought of a Rondeau discussion for inclusion in the formulae discussions.

As to another class, think I could add to a class on The Rubaiyat but I'd really like some different styles discussed before another romantic Eastern form pops up in the series.

That sounds good. There are only a total of ten poll options (as you know), so I couldn't even come close to listing all the forms. That's why I'm glad to see you writing in other forms--I hope others will, too. And I didn't even get into the "poetry tools" (like metaphor and imagery, etc.) that we also talked about doing. In theory, we could have more than one class going at a time (like a class on terzanelles at the same time as a class on metaphors), but who's gonna teach all this stuff? I think the point you made when all this first came up--that "teaching" needn't involve more than googling up some info and keeping the discussion going--is important to remember. We don't all have to be well versed in whatever form or aspect of poetry we choose to "teach."

OTOH, if any of us know people who are particularly good at a given form, maybe we could uh sweet talk them into helping out. For example, if we do Haiku, we have folks like Equinoxe, Senna Jawa and Kaishaku who have a lot of knowledge to share.

Did you notice that discussion crept into this discussion when I was discussing a discussion on my post about form discussions?

LOL... I just noticed I should change my title with that AV. Something like Eno-ma-i.

Although I adore haiku, I must admit to being a bit pleased that it does not have any votes at the moment—and amused that renga, however, does.

I was thinking the same thing; I think that a form in a different realm of poetry would be nice before more Eastern romantic forms.

I'm guessing the terzanelle will be next, but we'll give it a few days to see how the votes go.

And if it is the terzanelle, well Eve and I have both written them and will be glad to share what we know, though at least in my case I don't consider myself any sort of expert at them.

Yes, I suspect that it might be, too. I had actually thought that the terzanelle would probably be the first in the series, since it seems to be a particularly popular form here.

If you have more than one going at a time you will blow the top of my head off! I took ages before the penny dropped with the Ghazal and I had to read loads of Tankas before I would even dip my toe in the water,

I shame-facedly admit, all forms ending in 'elle' make me nervous.....but then most forms do.

when i saw your new av, the first title that came to mind was, "my name is legion...." :D

my favoriite horror flick of all time

I feel like I'm blindfolded with a stick in my hand, ready to hit the Pinata -- usually I'm not the one wearing the blindfold, and rarely aim at a papier mache object ...

So I may be the only one brave enough to say I don't know what some of the forms are; I do know haiku, a smattering about sonnets, and think I know what a sestina is. Maybe.

I'm tied up until Oct. 20 with a writers workshop, and didn't have time to research the forms. I'm game to try whatever the group decides, and will be back for "whatever" after the 20th.

Did I read a discussion about discussing discussions, or discussing whether to discuss discussions?

They're not so bad. The confusing part, for me, is deciding on what words to work with for your endings.
