Jealous-no...skeptical of her-yes. Being someone who works with special needs children I do have some issues with her having a five-month old child with Down Syndrome and running for vice-president. Being a mother is a full-time job - being a mother to a child with special needs is like having a second full-time job. I just wonder how much time she is really going to be able to devote to her youngest son - and her other children for that matter.
Then again I think anyone could say the same thing about Obama and his young daughters.
Though, I find it very interesting that she has claimed that she will be an advocate for special needs children if her and McCain are elected. I haven't run across one mother in my line of work who feels compelled to vote for her...quite the opposite actually. Most have a great distaste for her.

Sarah Palin is an attractive air head who is trying to flirt her way to the top, even though she is an obvious incompetent. Many working women have known someone like that, and they resented her.

She does have a husband, doesn't she? I'm always a little baffled when people take this tack with her while apparently forgetting that the child has two parents. It seems peculiar to me that she's receiving so much flak for it when there's a second parent quite capable of spending more time with the child.
I'm not pleased with her as McCain's choice. Like Obama's, it's setting an obvious trend back toward "someone who looks like people I want to have voting for me" instead of "someone who might be of some use in a position of high power." But this business of haranguing her about her domestic arrangements really seems to me to smack of doubled standards.

You are right that this child does have a second parent who can spend time with him. However he is on the campaign trail with his wife - or at least everytime I have seen her on TV her husband is standing next to her.
Anyone who works with Special Needs children will tell you that early intervention is key to ensuring that that child can reach his/her potential cognitivly and physically.
It has to start early and it isn't unusal for different kinds of therapy to begin as soon as the child is born when developmental problems are obvious. It makes me wonder who is working with this kid while he is on the road with mom or dad(and if it is the same person...because consistency is key with sn kids) ...and how much time he is actually spending with his parents.
But you are right I shouldn't assume that it is a woman's role to take care of the child...that was sterotyping on my part...however I still have some concerns with her and her husband - not to mention that like you I just don't think she was the best pick.

*nods* It can be a tough burden to any family, however many wage-earners and care givers there are. But as you note, it's vital.
I seem to recall that a child of one of our earlier presidents commissioned a study on the lives of presidential children, and the findings were not encouraging. Possibly to some extent nearly any child will find it tricky having a driven, ambitious parent who is constantly at the center of media attention and continually strained and on call. Certainly the "going in" and "coming out" pictures of most presidents to serve even one term seem to suggest that it's hard on people physically as well.
Still, who knows what their arrangements are with their child. Most of the politicians have access to quantities of money unimaginable to the rest of us. A private tutor travelling with them wouldn't be a long reach. I'm just a bit hesitant to critique her parenting without knowing a bit more about what she and her husband are actually doing. After all, there are so many other perfectly good things to criticize. *laugh*
