IDEAS

Story idea Brainstorming:

A clone of Wash is discovered. Chaos ensues.

OH! Guys! How about we have a second mercenary type crew of original characters that somehow meet up with the Serenity people. They have to work together during a job, or to rescue some of their own people captured by alliance/another enemy.

OR - a rift in space causes two different dimensions to collide. The serenity crew from an alternate time-line gets stuck in the 'original' universe.

--Maybe this crew could be gender opposites. The captain (mal) would be a woman. The pilot (wash), also a woman, Zoe - male, Kaylee - Male.. etc. Maybe different personalities too. They have Male companions too right? Hehe.

Character Claimed: Inara Serra.

I think Inara is going to have to keep her crush on Mal because I just have such a thing for his character. She will still be an experienced companion, rent the shuttle and give Serenity a veneer of respectability.

It might be funny if the newly cloned Wash develops a crush on Inara and she has to fend off his advances while Zoe attempts to help him and regain his affections.

Inara's shuttle is where crew members go when they need a listening ear, maybe a massage and a bit of R&R. I think Inara should interact with the crew a bit more than perhaps she did in the shows because otherwise, she'll have precious little to do unless we land somewhere. I can also see her being quite close to River and giving her a refuge as well as supervision during her more distressed episodes.

In addition, as a companion Inara is always in the driving seat and to ensure her own safety, never a submissive party. She would dearly love to be swept off her feet and let someone else take the lead but it has yet to occur. Relationships are always tricky for companions as there are often jealousy issues but Inara would love something... or someone... that was just for her.

Oh this would be SO funny. I could quite get into writing for a gigolo too.

Bandit #1: "And I think maybe you're gonna give me a little one-on-one time with the missus."
(Husband) Jayne: "Oh, I think you might wanna reconsider that last part. See, I married me a powerful ugly creature."
(Wife) Mal: "How can you say that? How can you shame me in front of new people?"
(Husband) Jayne: "If I could make you purtier, I would."
(Wife) Mal: "You are not the man I met a year ago." (they suddenly draw their guns on the bandits, Mal slowly pulling his bonnet off)
Mal: "Now think real hard. You been bird-dogging this township a while now. They wouldn't mind a corpse of you. Now you can luxuriate in a nice jail cell, but if your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet: I will end you."

Inara: "So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress?"
Mal: "Tactics, woman! Needed her in the back. 'Sides, them soft cotton dresses feel kind of nice. There's a whole airflow."
Inara: "And you would know that because...?"
Mal: "You can't open the book of my life and jump in the middle. Like woman, I'm a mystery."
Inara: "Best keep it that way. I withdraw the question."

I'm thinking Simon's going to be in his perpetual state of "Will he, won't he" with Kaylee, along with trying to still make progress with River. But who knows what'll happen with him? He's the butt-monkey of the show, so some odd stuff may end up happening with the good Simon. hehe

Name: Jan Sauer (let's see how many people recognize the name )
Age: late 20s (exact name not known)
Appearance: long dark hair, green eyes, tanned skin. Tall, lean, with the body of a runner or swimmer
Personality: varied. He goes from amused to cold as space in an instant and back again.

Has own ship

Title: captain/pilot of his own ship

Items: a complete gun set from ancient Earth, and a hand crafted sword in the style of a Cutlass. Also carries a picture of his older sister.

General Background: Jan WAS an Operative. Not many known this because when he suddenly disappeared from his job, he completely erased any evidence of his existence. In the process, he had a shipyard manufacture a custom ship of his own design, then erased the records of the construction. His reasons for leaving were directly related to the broadcast made by the crew of the ship Serenity, or as he refers ot it, the Good Ship Serenity, in an ancient custom used to refer to sailing vessels. His older sister was killed when he was young, and as she was his legal guardian at the time, he became the property of the government.

He keeps most of his past to himself at all times, which is fine since there aren't many people who even know he exists. But he has an interest in the crew of Serenity.

Do you guys think it would be too much if we combined the gender bender (as Wyldfire so cleverly desribed it) and Wash clone ideas into one story line? It could be fun, but hopefully it wouldn't be too chaotic to follow.

I thought so. Ssunstorm intended for this just to be a list, to simplify things but you know what we're like.

Right velvet, I wanted to simplify for my sake.

The other thread was more of a fishing thread to find out if there were other fans and if people were looking to join something. If they wanted to, would they take parts or make an all new crew? Set during the series or after? Etc.

This one was meant as a "yes i'm seriously in on this", and as a place for people to post bios for new characters they want to play alongside the main people like Malcom and Inara. Sorry for any confusion.

I made this new thread as a way to keep who is playing who more easy to find.

However I'm not getting feedback how I would have liked. I like to figure a story out with people so we have a goal in mind.

I'm sorry if I let anyone down by doing this, but I'm going to back out. After trying to join a few group RPs, it turns out I don't have enough time or focus to keep up with it all. One on ones are easier for me to keep track of.

However, you guys should still do an IC one and have fun with it
I didn't have a story in mind, and I didn't want to worry about controlling the tale.

I dug through the other thread and just couldn't find who wanted Jayne or Kaylee. I thought they were claimed, though.

Character Claimed: Malcom Reynolds

He is easly one of my favorite characters every. I like his cynical attitude and code of honor. I'm usually not a big fan of rebel/thief characters, but it is hard not to root for him.

I think I have a good grip on how to play the character. He needs to talk sarcasticly with an additude of not being fazed. At the same time there needs to be a melancoly leftover from the war. He focuses a lot on his crew and anything that happens to them he takes personally. Although generally clever and witty, he still would preffer a simple, direct aproach to problems. There seems to be an almost masocistic way of going about things that puts him in harms way. Oh, and a big problem with authority. Big, way big. Huge.

I think that his relationship with Inara is very interesting. He likes her, he desires her, but he cannot get around her profession. He tries to hide it from everyone, but really only hides it from himself.

I have to say, I don’t feel able to start a IC thread without filling these spare roles as they’re all pretty integral.

In terms of setting the scene, our SRP is going to open on Persephone and move on to Jiangyin. We can invent planets as we go but as we're all Firefly/Serenity fans, I think we should kick off with something vaguely familiar. If anybody needs to brush up on their Firefly trivia, here is a series of episode summaries.

Persephone

Persephone is a civilized planet with heavily stratified societal structure. The Eavesdown Docks are located here, a commercial port and Badger's base of operations. The Serenity crew lands here periodically to resupply and pick up work. Simon and River Tam, Shepherd Book and the Alliance villain Dobson were picked up here in the first, two part episode "Serenity". Book had been living on Persephone at the Southdown Abbey. The planet was also the site of a swordfighting duel between Malcolm Reynolds and Atherton Wing in the episode "Shindig". Persephone's name comes from Greek mythology as the name of the "Queen of the Underworld".

Jiangyin

Jiangyin is a border planet located 3 weeks away from Persephone, and also nearby Greenleaf. Alliance law is known to be upheld here. The crew of Serenity sells a cargo load of cattle here in the episode "Safe". The planet is most likely named after a city in China's Jiangsu province along the Yangtze River.

So... opening premise

I think this is the simplest solution and if people agree, we'll go with it.

I’m really looking to just place everybody somewhere to start with, how the story develops is largely up to you guys.

Serenity is on Persephone where Mal is looking for his next job. Inara has a client, a wealthy merchant by the name of Theo, who has been widowed a few months ago when his young, trophy wife died in childbirth. Mal and Zoe hook up with a guy who used to be a browncoat but has since kept quiet about his past as Persephone is under Alliance rule. He tips them off about a military shipment that is being sent to Jiangyin. It has food, fuel and medical supplies and although the ship will have a full crew, it’s a cargo vessel and not an armoured one. Simon and River keep a low profile as Persephone is where they boarded Serenity and the Alliance presence here is strong.

[If River wants to go walkies and create havoc, that’s up to kimblerlee. I don’t want to be too controlling and I’ve never tried to organise a multiplayer thread so please bear with me.]

Kaylee can start off on Serenity, working on something in the engine room with Jayne’s assistance with the heavier stuff.

Wash will start off in the cockpit, checking readouts and testing things as Kaylee works.

Book might enjoy visiting Southdown Abbey where he used to live.

DragonRazor: I’m content for you to place yourself wherever you like at this stage because it’s obvious you have a trick or two up your sleeve and I think it would make things more interesting if you surprised the rest of the cast with whatever that is. If you want to discuss anything in PM, please do feel free.

Finally, Ssunstorm, if you reconsider at any point and want to join in or cameo as one of the characters you suggested or a nontrad, please do.

At this point, I’d really appreciate if everyone would just sign in and wave hello so that I know I’ve still got everyone on board who claimed characters. I’ll pm those who were interested but didn’t claim a role and if that doesn’t fill in the blanks, I’ll post on the TTNP sticky.

Please let me know if the opening setting is ok and any ideas for plot development are always welcomed and can be posted right here for all players to discuss.

General Background:Nevans grew up poor on a large planet in core of humans space his family latter moved to a back water planet. Nevans grew up with little education, working hard to help his family. He learned threw experiences working on various ships working his way up the ladder. He gained skills in navigation accounting and explosives that he used to gain employment.
