Nancy Pelosi had challenged Republican's "Patriotism!"

Where's the mention of the republican leadership here? Do they have any? Who were all these thin-skinned republicans whining to? Did anyone step up and tell them to quit being pouty little children and step up to do the deed? No. Of course not. A few words from Pelosi - and not even very partisan words at that - and suddenly all principal goes out the window. You are beyond naive if you really think that these republicans were swayed by a few words from Pelosi.

It was a Bush-Obama initiative, the Democrats control the House. They can pass it without a single Republican vote. I imagine the Republican leadership wasn't particularly motivated to go along with Pelosi.

Well, now....

... but unlike the Democrats who voted against the bill, the Republicans who voted against the bill are unpatriotic.

I hear RosettaStone is coming out with a course on Pelosi-speak.

What?

Politicians of all types are putting their own spin on the developments (or lack of thereof) for their own personal career agendas?????

NO WAY!!!!

:p

It was a shitty bill - no one wanted to pass it - that's why it was agreed upon that this was to be a bi-partisan bill, so both parties would bare the fall out. ie, each party delivers half the votes required to pass. Pelosi did her part - she brought them 2/3 of the way, more than half. You're missing the point, clearly.

This bill was a bitter pill, a shitty sandwich forced upon the people by a panicky president and a fucking criminal economic system - but if it had to be done, as most law-makers seem to think it did, then why couldn't the republicans get it done?

Always the way - can't clean up their own damn messes and they bitch and moan when others don't want to do 100% of the wiping up for them.

I say let the banks fucking drown - wipe the board and let em burn, and when people ask why it happened the answer will be clear.

Democrats delivered their votes - Republicans didn't. If you're looking for blame to throw - seems to me it should be tossed at the side that didn't do their job. At the end of the day - whatever Pelosi said, there is no excuse for Republicans to be so thin skinned and weak kneed as to put their own petty pride above the good of the country. They gambled your entire economy because of a speech? I don't buy it, no way.

Quote all the McCain campaign statements you like - it doesn't make them truth - and it doesn't make them right.

Fact is - Republicans voted down this measure, and the democrats didn't force them to. They make up their own minds, and not even the mighty sword of John McCain was able to sway them.

This roll call would indicate that a lot of Democrats didn't deliver....why is that I wonder?

I agree with you, it was a bad bill, no one wanted it passed, and it was forced upon the people. Golden parachute, the Dems wouldn't take it out and Pelosi spouts vitriol to boot. It created a mess, a real mess, and the Democrats, as you said and I agree 100%, can't clean up their own damn messes and they bitch and moan when others don't want to do 100% of the wiping up for them.

Bush-Obama initiative? You are so evidently living in the political parallel universe created by Bush/McCain via Karl Rove that I really don't know how to respond.

You also are absolutely buying hook line and sinker the political bullshit that Rovian Republicanism spews. Individuals who buy this stuff, like you, are the reason Rovian style politics wins out.

Congratulations! We can continue to expect logic defying political assertions from the children on the Hill - i.e. House Republicans!

You thought the golden parachute bar was bad? Really? What the hell planet are you living on.

You actually advocate tax payer dollars to bail out financial institutions and don't want a cap on CEOs being able to make tens upon tens of millions of dollars for essentially bankrupting their own companies and placing greed/corruption at the forefront?

I'm actually glad we disagree - because the day we do - I'll start wondering about my own sanity.

This is the Democrats mess?

Misty - you are aware that Republicans have controlled the House for 12 out of the last 14 years and the Presidency for the last 8? You are aware of this, correct?

Listen, I call them like I see them. I can say the same about you, buying into all the stuff you do, ignoring anything presented to you that doesn't fit the Obama mold. I call call it Ostrich Politics, your head in the sand, ignoring everything that doesn't support your precious vision. But, I respect your right to believe the way you do. What you just said to me was all about my character and my beliefs, there was nothing about the issue at hand. There is no explanation as to why Ms. Pelosi spouted the way she did. Look at the bill, see if it is as it was presented by Paulson and Bernanke. It's not, the differences reflect what the Democrats added. Changing it so that it is agreeable to a majority of the delegates is called compromise, a word which doesn't seem to be in your vocabulary. Perhaps they need to work on it a little harder, then it will pass. I hope Ms. Pelosi and her posse learned a lesson today. I don't think the people will tolerate another outburst from her or another bumbling attempt at negotiations.

I agree that the CEO's should not be given a golden parachute. If you misunderstood me then I apologize for not making myself clear

Seems to me the Democrats, who were supposed to be in contol for the last two years, haven't done squat. We didn't have the problems we have now until they gained control. I was pleased when the Democrats got control and stopped the rubber stamp government we had. I helped them get elected. I'm dissappointed in the results. I'm very displeased with the way they've been comporting themselves of late. If I had to vote today, I wouldn't vote for McCain, I wouldn't vote for Obama, that decision is irrelevant. I would vote whichever way I felt would not allow another rubber stamp government. I'd vote grid lock.

Rubber stamp government? Here are the offenders:

BUSH
BOEHNER
PELOSI
FRANK
REID
OBAMA
BIDEN
DODD

It wasn't "deregulation" that caused the Fannie and Freddie mess: it was Barney Frank's insistence that junk loans be made to help people buy a house who could not afford to pay the mortgage. Ducking for cover, it's no surprise that 12 of Frank's finance (Banking) committee members (democrats) voted against the deal today, not for ideological, but for personal avoidance-of-scrutiny reasons.

It's time for a change. It's time to get rid of the old Bush-Obama failed economics and politics as usual: go-along-to-get-along.

The public can see this, and that's one reason why they don't support the Democrat bail out.
