Do you have questions? About poetry? About sex? About anything? Maybe you just want to shoot the breeze, chat and flirt with each other. Use this thread to ask and chat and flirt away. And remember that we have other threads like the Bistro and the Chitchat threads where non-poetry comments are welcome.

Some threads here were designed to be preserved for special purposes. All of a Sudden Passion Suddenly and Writing Live are for poetry only. No chat or flirt allowed! Poetry in Progress and Not For the Thin Skinned are for poetry workshopping only. The Lit Blog is for blog entries. New poem reviews are reviews only! We do this so poems, reviews, blog entries are easy to find and aren't lost in a sea of chitchat.

So please, please remember that we love you all, we really do, but we want you to keep your chat and flirt limited to the threads designed for that. We all forget occasionally or can't help a smarmy or sexy comment in a thread, but when we do it a lot, Eve or Lauren or I has to spend a lot of time moving your posts around to try to keep threads centered on their respective purposes.

No one is going to be rude or mean to you if you forget. But we might move your posts. And of course we're all here for the joy of being together. Our primary purpose though is poetry: writing it, reviewing it and talking about it. It's our raison d'etre!

So ask your questions and have your fun here.

Oh but it is no cause for irritation at all. Anything but. The continual behavior that was unaware or unconcerned with rules, strictures, structure, boundaries, caused the beautiful creature known as Poetry Feedback & Discussion, to sprout new appendages. We didn't know it would happen, we didn't consciously attempt to make it happen, but it did happen on its own. The universe as we know it has been altered. And we witnessed it.

LOL! And the Mods saw that it was good...

I'm just wondering if people tend to post their chitchat on the clean thread and blog one simply because they're near the top of the list. It's a pain to continually scroll through the thread index to find the "right" thread to post a comment on.

I appreciate that it's nice to open a thread and see the exact content expected on there, but really, a "to keep the review thread clean ... and other chit-chat" thread that doesn't accept chit chat content seems a little OtT and controlling.

Most people keep the threads dedicated to a specific purpose on topic but who are we to say a three word blog is any less a blog entry than one that is a beautifully written 250 word experience? To keep building threads that spin off of posts from other threads makes a cluttered forum and it sometimes feels like an unwelcoming gyne waiting room where conversation is discouraged.

Don't be silly. Of course chitchat was part of the title and the thread. I think making review comments and chat should have been two threads to start with. Now it is. Simple as that. Why do these sorts of things have to be made into a big deal. The thread still exists. It's jut split in half. lol

God, make comments but sometimes I want to read small or big blog entries without wading through a bunch of flirt and whatever that goes on and on and has nothing to do with anything in the thread. Chat but don't clutter it so bad that you can't find a blog entry.

Champie you know we're just trying to keep certain threads on target so people can find what they want without having to scroll through pages of chat, which may not interest them at all. And I know we never said it about the blog thread before, but we also both know that most of the short posts there aren't blog entries. Anyway I'm more guilty of chitchat than anyone maybe, but I do think it's good to keep the poetry threads (and me) on target with poems (or blogs with blogs). Your point about threads near the top is well taken. We could stick a chat thread, but then I think why do we need a stuck chat thread? There are other forums here that are all chat all the time. Maybe the diff for us is, unlike the AH, we're not set up with a PH.

Now I'm trying to think of things I'd like to ask a poet.

Like, why is the sky blue?

Or, what was I thinking, majoring in literature?

My parents used to lay that one on me all the time. Then I started getting work as an editor. It shut them right up, which seemed like a great victory to me at the time.

I didn't say we'd give answers that helped! :)

Who told you the sky is blue?

And do you ever wonder if alien sightings aren't really aliens but earthlings from long long long ago who were a thousands times more advanced than we are now, and they got out just before a big natural catastrophe (they saw a comet coming), but they left no evidence behind that could really verify they ever existed, and they just pass through their old neighborhood once in a while? Or they are the distant future us and they zip and slip in and out of narrow creases?

I've wondered since I was a kid if we're subatomic particles on some larger being in a universe we can't conceive.

Animal House! the Donald Sutherland pot scene. :D

Jesus is that true? Well at least I have good company. Honestly that has been my science fiction fantasy since I was a little kid. I can remember thinking it when I was little and being freaked out by the idea. Too much Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, I guess.

Well, similar - I forget the exact lines... something about the universe us being a speck on the fingernail of a greater being... shame on me, as many times as I've seen that movie.

Seriously, favorite movie all-time, hands-down: Animal House.

And Twilight Zone. Ohhh! Incredible stuff.

If all of television consisted of only Twilight Zones and Animal House set on continual loop? The world would be wonderful.

I still loves you :D How's hairy Hugo?

No no we are a vast experiment into interspecies breeding and the creator has a weird sense of humour I mean to say who in their right minds would try to breed us with Men? There is a parallel universe where some poor souls are being forced into the same experiment in reverse

My all time favorite movie is To Kill a Mockingbird. I can't decide if I want Atticus Finch to be my father or I want to be Atticus Finch.

I've only seen Animal House a few times. It was on TV recently. EE was watching it and roaring. I think I was in the kitchen making bread, so I only saw pieces of it.

Favorite Twilight Zone episode? I think mine is "Kick the Can."

I like this idea a lot. The men get preggy? They get cramps and pms and stuff? Yeah, I like it!

Was it Twilight Zone where there was a hairy man on the wing of a plane tearing lumps off it? That has haunted me for years :D

Terror at 30,000 Feet (or something thousand, I might have the number wrong), I bet. Was William Shatner in it? Did the creature look like a Yeti?

That's why when I pray, I address Horton. He can hear us.

bj

I pray to the sneetches. The ones without stars upon thars.

A bit like fleas?

Yup. :)

I googled it's Nightmare at 30,000 feet and yes William Shatner got carted off in a straight-jacket just as the ground crew were inspecting the damages they had found, scary stuff!

Man, I hate to sound like an old grouch, but give me the worst Twilight Zone episode they made over just about anything that's come out since... hm quite a while. When you think of how puny the technology was then compared to now, and those old black and white episode still hold up today... amazing.

And every time I've seen Animal House on TV, seems like something gets cut. Offensive language, tits... Oh! That's right! Just remembered! One recent (couple years ago) showing, I do recall they cut out the whole Sutherland/pot scene. I was looking for it, waiting, yeah this is funny! Then - nothing. Oh I was livid. Sacrilege! Criminals! Whoever did that should be strung up and left to... sorry.

There's a serious dearth of anti-authority offerings (that really inspire) from what I've noticed these days. Bunch of Reality shows and everybody's always crying.
