Question about responding to feedback

I would appreciate it if someone would let me know if it is possible/appropriate to respond to public comments/feedback on stories

The reason I am asking is that I have only just started to submit stories this week and two have received public comments/feedback. One of the comments actually suggested something which I had already included in the next chapter which I submitted earlier today and I was wondering if I could/should respond and if I did whether the commenter would see my response.

Thank you for any advice.

I only respond if they are signed in and leave their screen name. It's always polite to thank them via email or PM if they bother to leave a comment. Unless an anonymous commenter asks something specific or is berating me, I don't usually respond in comments.

Thank you - they were anonymous so I will leave it as you suggest

Thanks for responding

The consensuous I've seen when this question is asked is that it's best to respond to messaged comment when you are able (when they've left a means to respond) or unless they seem to be just trying to start up a fight. I rarely respond to public comment alone--and then usually when I've received useful comment and I want to acknowledge that. I always respond to e-mailed comment (I've never received any PMed comment) with at least a thank you unless they are just badgering and are commenting on me rather than the story. Unfortunately, sometimes they have messaged from a fake e-mail address, so contact isn't possible by the means they choose.

After having a big slug of posted stories under your belt, you'll probably find that it's difficult to even see new comment on older stories, let alone respond to it. There's no mechanism here for letting the author know new public comment has posted. I can only scan through my story file once or twice a year to even see that there's been comment I hadn't seen before.

Thanks - as I said I am new here so am still trying to figure it all out - it really helps to get the advice of people, like you, who have a lot of experience

Thanks again

Yep, old . . . and rich. Good luck with both of those. :D

(by the way, there should have been a comma behind that "i.e.")

I stand corrected. I.e., old, rich and anal.

Sincerely,

Young, well-to-do and attractive. :)

I hate that. One of the few Scouries' suggestions I touted at one time. Poor fella. There are some good ideas lost in the drivel.

Which means your claims are just as suspect, of course.

Sure. Everyone should take me on the basis of what they can discern from here and from what they can dig out.

I'm pretty sure they won't find me to be harrassing trailer trash, though. :)

Oh, I think you're an equal opportunity harasser, Bubba.

On the off chance that was aimed at me: your aim is really, really bad. I've never lived in a trailer in my life. Like you claim, my father worked indirectly for the government on the weapons end.

In fact, if you're interested enough, you can look back through the threads and find the one about the new, rather large, house we bought recently...pictures and everything. :)

Certainly not in the first responder class on this with you, though, toots.

Isn't it about time that you took that "gone" off from under your name?--because it looks like you've gotten over your latest "so long, suckers" snit and have returned to your full harridan mode on the forum. :D

Oh, does it bother you?

Good. :)

Yeah, I saw the picture of your new Cadillac you posted too--straight off an Internet brochure. :)

Whatever makes you feel better about yourself is fine with me, sweetheart.

btw: if you learn to read carefully, you'll find I said I had one just like that, not that that particular picture was of mine.

Wait... is that "harassing trailer trash" - one phrase?

Or is that harassing (as a verb) trailer trash?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Could be the car of anyone in the neighborhood, of course. (And, as I recall you did, indeed, say it was your new car.)

But the bottom line here is that both you and Safe Bet (unless you are one and the same) chose to throw a perfectly fine thread discussion off the rails by attacking me personally without provocation. Some things never change. And you certainly are one of them.

Yes, one phrase. "Harassing" is an adjective and "trailer trash" is a combined noun. The verb to that is "is," and the subject in this case would be "Cloudy."

Not everyone living in a trailer is trash. Not all trailer trash lives in a trailer. It's all in the wrist action. Cloudy's got the wrist action down pat.

Any excuse, sweetheart. :D If it was "anyone's" then I wouldn't have bothered to wipe out the tag number. You're not real swift sometimes, bless your heart.

Your reading comprehension really sucks too, doesn't it? I've had several threads while I was looking for a new car, but no, this one isn't new. As I said, it's already paid for. :)

as I recall, it was you who started the tangent by claiming that Safe Bet was probably "Bubba," so let's let you take the credit for this one.

I've proved my point. Now you prove yours, unless you can't. :D

Well, yes . . . I sorta can. Read the thread again, darling. The originator thanked those who responded and used the word "experienced." And then Safe Bet took off on me at that point. My response gave this a chance to just be something playful. But Safe Bet--and then you, had different agendas to pursue. Do read the thread again, TT.

Now, is the thread truly dead, thanks to Safe Bet and Cloudy (if, indeed, they are different posters), or would anyone else like to contribute their experience and insight in responding to comments on stories?
