I have recently been looking for rope bondage tutorials so I can start learning how to do things safely and efficiently. I have got some basic knots and things lined up ranging in complexity. I did see one harness that caught my eye I really wanted to learn how to do.

I was going to post a link here and ask if anyone knew of any books or sites that had tutorials for it, or even knew how to do it themselves and could give pointers however I lost the image. So I'll have to describe it as much as I can remember.
It had several sets of rope (let's say 3 across) going across the chest and arms with circular wrapping under the arms, on each of the sets of rope.
Ideally I'd like to incorporate this with leg restraints, perhaps in a kneeling position.

Apologies for not being able to be more descriptive or include a photo, I will keep looking and try and post a link when I find one.

Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot, I'd already found Homburg's ropework photos (one of the main things that got me interested in the first place was how pretty some of his knots and harnesses looked) I hadn't stumbled across the other two posts, thank you. Some of the sites I'd already seen and have bookmarked but the majority are new to me. Haven't yet found the actual harness I'm after but I haven't yet had time to exhaust all the sites, thanks again.

Hi there. Thanks, Dlg, for linking to my thread.

Sounds vaguely like a Takata-kote harness, but I'm not really sure if that is what you are looking for. Try searching for images with that name. I've done them in my thread as well, but I'm not sure exactly where.

Was it something akin to this? The tie in the second photo is a modified takata-kote.

Ropework has traditional ties that are commonly taught, but there is a lot of variance within the work itself.

And I'm glad that you enjoyed my thread. I really should update it, but I've just not been doing stuff in venues that allowed photography, or on bunnies that could afford to have even obscured photos posted. Sad, too, as I've done some really hot stuff recently, including a couple of smokin suspensions. :(

Thanks a lot, yes, the takate-kote seems to be what I had seen before, although it was a full torso with arms straight down, rather than across the back. I guess a variation, as you said.

I would love to see some more photos of your work, do you yourself have guides and tutorials? I can't remember seeing any.

Thanks a lot for your help. I probably need to buy some more rope first, I just got a small amount to play about with first (5m to practice wrists and random knots, and 10m to hopefully do a little more) I have seen that a lot of harnesses need several ropes up to 40m in length. If practising goes well, I'll get enough to do a little more fancy stuff.

Yess, most likely. I've done a karada with the arms down. It's one of the first sets linked on my first post.

I posted a tutorial on a cuff. It was published as a story here on Lit, and in an online magazine. It was posted on my thread as well.

Quite welcome. I don't work with much longer than 10m, as the third post that Dlg linked says. I tend to prefer that length as it is more versatile. Longer rope really gets in the way, and it is too easy to join rope together.

Apologies, I must have missed a couple. Will look deeper and further. One of the reasons I hadn't got more rope now was that all guides I found seemed to tell me different things, what type of rope is best, what lengths you would need etc. I was hoping to experiment for myself, find out what works best for my sub, me, and the things we'd want to do.

Thanks again for your help

Well, everyone has their own tastes. I would suggest just giving 7-10m a shot, and go for 6mm and/or 8mm rope. Those tend to be the best starting point. It also helps to know what sorts of bottoms you will be tying. If you tend to play with slender/muscular bottoms, 6mm rope in 7-8m lengths works best for me. If you tend to with larger or plush bottoms, I'd go with 8mm rope in longer lengths such as 10-12m.

The really long lengths of rope honestly do get in the way, and they're only really useful on the more complex full-torso body harnesses.

Was bored so I thought I'd write a short update.

I received my rope a couple of weeks ago and have a few attempts at tying a couple of things. I began with some simple arm wraps (my sub quite likes having a single "gauntlet" on, so she is constantly reminded of who's boss but can still do everything easily) and moved onto some larger things, I followed a youtube video of a takate-kote and liked the end result, I really like the pulling in of the rope under the arms, not sure why.

Anyway, I also had a fiddle with modifying that to be able to take more body wraps, I found that my current rope could only add a third wrap, and only if I modified the beginning of the thing so you don't tie the hands up, which should be held against the hips anyway (in my mind)

It all went smoothly apart from the fact I could no longer do the very pretty knot that I had previously had on the back of the takate-kote. I was left with an unfortunate mess of rope. It worked and worked very well, but wasn't pretty.

My sub currently not feeling well so I haven't had the chance to practice any more... I can *maybe* share some pictures as long as nothing recognisable is visable, so maybe Homburg, when I manage to get the camera out, you could have a look and see what you think, if that's ok? :)

Ok, now that's done, time for me to find something else to busy myself with

I'm voting 6mm, I bought 8 and I regret it at times, even tying large men.

I also think that 40ft lengths are good on plush people for chest ties. YMMV. I know Hommie probably has better speed than I do, for sure.

Cool, well, the rope I got claims to be 6/7mm... and I think it's great :) As I said, I have'nt done anything amazing, and the 10m rope I had just about stretched to things I wanted as of yet. Hopefully when my sub get's better then I can experiment more :) I have decided that I need something slightly longer for more elaborate things (like if I can get the back of the takate-kote thing working) so I think I will buy a 15m length. I wouldn't call my sub plush though, she's very much on the small side... just the 10m didn't quite do what I wanted... and I'm perfectly happy to continue tying her up after :D (It's been commented I look like a "mad scientist" when I get busy with things like this)

Absolutely. I'd be happy to take a look.

I tend to dislike 8mm as well. I think I have all of 100ft of it total, and it was the first thing I bought. I've not had the urge to buy any since. I keep it for sentimental reasons, and because I won't throw out rope unless it's in bad shape. I don't like how 8mm holds knots. Still, some people find 6mm too small for their special snowflake's sensitive skin.

Speed varies. When I'm tying in public my speed goes up. Doing demos I have to slow down so it can be followed more easily. I have gotten comments on hwo fast I can put certain ties together though. It's more a matter of practice and a good bottom. I don't know about you, but the ones that require very little communication are the best. They respond to a slight touch or single word, and seem to flow with what you need. Man, rope just flies onto those sort of people.
