When Karl Rove is saying your political ads have gone too far, you know you must be doing something dishonest.

The former Bush chief strategist, appearing on Fox News Sunday, said that John McCain had stretched the truth in his recent round of attacks against Barack Obama, in the process opening up the Arizonan to a round of effective counter-attacks.

"McCain has gone in his ads one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100-percent-truth test," said Rove. "Both campaigns ought to be careful about... there ought to be an adult who says: 'Do we really need to go that far in this ad? Don't we make our point and get broader acceptance and deny the opposition an opportunity to attack us if we don't include that one little last tweak in the ad?'"

Sure enough, the Obama campaign weighed in... gleefully.

"In case anyone was still wondering whether John McCain is running the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history, today Karl Rove - the man who held the previous record - said McCain's ads have gone too far," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.

It's like hating Tom Brady--the worst part is he's on the other team. If Rove was a Democrat, he'd be viewed in a completely different light. If he was bald, he could be James Carville's smarter brother.

Aparently you didn't notice he was talking about BOTH SIDES.

He said that both sides need to be careful, but only stated that McCain's campaign had stepped over the line.

But then, you're not big on reading comprehension.

At the risk of repeating myself, history would prove these campaigns, on both sides are hardly the sleaziest or most dishonest.

That's good. Because, according to you he can't possibly be telling the truth. He's Carl Rove after all.

Not big on reading comprehension either huh? More likely it's just the myopia kicking in again.

There's nothing to comprehend. Nothing to cogitate. Rove has an opinion, and a belly button. Neither are of any particular importance to me.

Carl Cove's opinion should be the last thing UD is leaning on to make a point.

irony much?

exactly. in fact, both sides have been remarkably decent.

Yeah, I mean, calling Obama's experience into question is valid, if not a bit repeated, as is calling McCain's conservatism or age. The only people who have gone to far are the nebulous 'media' who seem to be practically wetting themselves with glee over the next scandal to report.

I do think Karl needs to sit this one out though, I mean, people have ALLLLMMMMOOOOSSSSTTTTTT forgotten that he is the son of Beelzebub, he really shouldn't call unecessary attention to himself. We may start to remember.

All it really proves is Rove is in the dark how this campaign should be played out. This is new ground.

He was speaking about the same thing that the rest of the media has been calling McCain's campaign out for, launching a series of advertisements that could be categorized as dishonest if not downright lies.

Karl Rove telling someone that they've gone over the line in their political advertisements (on FauxNews no less) is like Ted Bundy telling them that maybe you killed just a few too many people.

One of the ads that comes to mind, that many have chastised him on was where he was stating Obama wanted to promote teaching second graders about sex, when in fact, Obama was proposing teaching children about things unacceptable and about sexual predators and being able to feel that they could turn to someone in a position of trust to report when these things happen to them.

The McCain ad stating the lie about teaching sex to children was fucked up and way, way out of line. A bold face lie.

To which all the McCain "supporters" here had ZILCH to say about in fully understood, critical thought.

Buuuut of course, you know how it is. Whatever helps them sleep at night, as long as they're not commenting on it, it's not a weight they're morally obligated to carry.

That particular ploy has been used many time, and for a very long time. The first time I saw it, I was about 12, when leaflets were distributed through out the city. The leaflet had the logo of the Ku Klux Klan and protested sex education in public schools as a threat to children.

Its hard to understand why some forty years later, anyone would think people would still fall for it.

Matching the 100 yr. war, right? :)

It's a blood sport.
