I'm too lazy to find the other thread.
I chatted with Trini a bit this evening and she asked me to pass on the following, copy-pasted from her half of our chat log:
Um, okay...where to start...I went to the hospital on the 18th of August for my scheduled induction, and was sent back to the Ronald McDonald house because there were no beds available in Labor and Delivery and no beds in the NICU
That's the comical part
So I went back into Johns Hopkins on the 20th of August, this time to be admitted into the hospital for real.
Apparantly I had already been having very minor contractions (I didn't know it, but the machine picked it up), so I had a good start
Now...I know they had me on an IV drip and at some point they had me on the pitocin (sp?), but I don't remember what order that all happened in. I got to about five cm. dilated and sort of plateaued there
Baby J's heart rate remained good and healthy throughout, and really, I had no doubts that she'd be okay and taken good care of, so I wasn't worried about her
So......
Doc came in and ruptured my water, but it took a while for it to actually break all over me. :-D
By this time they were worried since I was still at five and really not going anywhere. Pain began...totally in my back, no frontal.
I requested my get out of jail free card (epidural) at some point, and he came in and did it, and I started to feel better...mildly
Imagine my shock when the drugs started to wear off. It got worse...because when they came in to give me more drugs, it didn't work. I felt no relief.
So they upped the dosage and the frequency with which they gave me more and more, and it kept wearing off faster and faster.
Epidural 1 was removed and new anesthesiologists came in to try epidural 2
By this time I was in so much pain I couldn't sit up so they tried inserting it with my lying on my side.
Epidural 2 didn't work at ALL
Epidural 2 was removed a little later and they coaxed me to sit up so they could try a third time
Of course, epidural 3....didn't work.
lol
I'd gotten past 5 cm by this point. I think around this time I was 7 or so
Docs were getting worried since I was classified as high risk, so they started talking about a C-section
They were worried about my pain levels (mind you, I never took a lamaze class in my life, but I managed), especially because it was all back labor
Baby J was still holding out stable, great heart rate through all this
At 8-9 cm, they decided a C-section was safest, so they rushed me to the OR
I was in labor for a total of 49 hours
I requested general anesthesia because I was scared the spinal block wouldn't work. J was born and surpassed everyone's expectations...despite only having the use of one lung, she cried when she came out, fought the intubation, and had her eyes open as they took her to NICU
August 22, 9:49 pm, 9 lbs 5 oz
Her liver is covered over for now, and she's made it down to a half liter of oxygen
Ah...she has a diaphragmatic hernia...there's a hole in her diaphragm that her liver slipped through, so it's compressing one of her lungs.
She also has a chest wall defect where the other part of her liver is exposed. So there's a dressing that keeps all that covered for now.
To keep out infections and such
Now, she's got a feeding tube, but she also takes from a bottle sometimes...and the best news is that she was moved from the NICU two days ago up to regular pediatrics
Her surgeon came by yesterday and said he'd like to put together a game plan over the next week for her surgery to take place in the next week or two
Her other lung will expand and develop on its own
Once the liver is moved
The only concern is that whenever they work on adjusting J's oxygen down to a lower level, she does not tolerate it well at all. So, we're not totally out of the woods
She's come so far though, and I think he thinks she can do it. Maybe she can. I keep telling her to try...
Oh....I had to be readmitted to the hospital about a week ago.
My incision and uterus got infected
I was high risk because of my water being broken for so long, being so far dilated, and having so many vaginal examinations.
Now I'm healing right this time...a nurse comes daily to change the dressing.

She goes on to thank everyone for the baby shower gift card, which I delivered to her this evening.
