Country First

I am voting for President, not Vice President and I am certainly not voting based on the V.P.'s family. Beyond Obama's pie in the sky programs, he cannot be trusted, he will turn on anything or anyone to get elected and once he is elected who knows what he will do?

Who did he turn on?

Name me one thing that shows empirical evidence that Obama will turn on anything or anyone to get elected?

Now, once you do that.....why don't you stop a minute and think of what McCain has done since 2000 - to prepare him for the moment he is in right now.

Who's the political opportunist? Another line of attack you don't want to take.

Unless you're squeaky clean - which McCain/Palin definitely our not - be wary where you cast your stones.

That is the ultimate point. McCain has shown us one commanding decision in this campaign - and that decision was "off the cuff" "from the hip" it wasn't thought out, it wasn't researched, it wasn't the process of rational thought.

Sounds like Bush Jr's foreign policy.

It sounds exactly like Bush's foreign policy and most of his domestic one. What is so comical is that one Republican spin is, "this is John McCain being the maverick."

Pallin is a hail-mary pass... and I just don't think there's any way that anyone's going to catch it. She may woo-em at the convention, but I don't think she's going to play well at all in a bigger, less-partisan theater.

But, maybe it's just me.

That's twice tonight I've seen the hail-mary pass connection concerning Palin from two different users. Who is the originator of this and are they bored with politics and dying for football season to begin already or what?

Oh... and here I was thinking I had an original metaphor in play. Drat.

Crazy and unmanly, I know, but I actually can't stand high-end football. Love to play... hate to watch. Go figure.

The First Baptist Church was in the first sentence in Obama's old website, where is it now? Why is it gone? Did Reverend Wright radically change his message, no, he was a political liability and he got dumped.

Sorry to burst your bubble. I figured someone getting paid to come up with such metaphors first strummed it, the rest of you followed suit or some shit.

I'm not keen of political threads at all, but hey, when in Rome, yanno.

Nah, I'm not much of a suit-follower. Wall-flower occasionally and cat-wrangler sometimes... but no suit-follower.

Yes, most of these political threads are a waste of time... but I guess I think most of everything here isn't so SO different.

btw...

in the morning edition,
retract the alaska independence party claim...

their source was... a liar.

may we let this lady speak?

Are you suggesting it's those opposed to Palin that are keeping her quiet, rather than the terrified McCain staff?

Here's Palin lauding the anti-American AIP.

The only think I have heard about the Alaskan Independence party was a brief comment on MSNBC that some documents had been provided showing Palin had been a Registered Republican since 1984 or so.

That is all I have heard. Her just being a registered republican doesn't prevent her from doing things with the AIP or speaking at their convention but it does put a bit of a damper on how she was affiliated with them.

I will also admit my ignorance that I don't even know anything about the AIP and had only heard of them in passing previously.

She gave a recorded "Welcome" speech to their convention. They are a political party in Alaska -- not her party, but nevertheless a party. In her speech she recognized them as the competition.

Just because Willie Brown (D-CA) gives a welcome address to the LGBT or Sex Workers Union in San Francisco does not mean he is gay or turns tricks in The Tenderloin.

If you can put your personal politics aside for a minute and look at this from a strategic point of view.. It appears that this is exactly what he wanted to do..

Bear with me here...you are running a race against someone who has tons of charisma and seems to be the darling of the media... experience aside it's JFK of 1960 and it looks like your opponent has the whole thing in his pocket... while you on the other hand are as about as exciting as corn flakes.. so what do you do? Get a running mate who will attract tons of attention with all sorts of ready made hollywood style scandal, that is easy on the eyes (yeah plays to the male component) who is somewhat controversial and throw her to the media wolves..

Viola! Instant free press...

It's fucking brilliant!

Even better if your running mate handles herself well in the face of this onslaught..

Note: The above was written with tongue severely planted in cheek..

and in The More Perfect Union speech... he also said this in explaining his allegence to Wright and the Trinity Baptist Church.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Throwing his own grandmother under the bus for politcal expendency is just beyond the pale to me. He could have made the point without implying his grandmother is a racist.

please!

in your link, she welcomes people with differing views....

...after cleaning house in her own party...

keep digging turbo!

did you hear her daughter's knocked up?
go on the
'family values' angle...

...keep those safe electoral votes
in your back pocket

There's a lot more to it than that - see my first post in the thread. Her husband, who has injected himself into her political life as governor, was a member until 2002.

You're supposed to keep the same opinions and viewpoint when you go from a state to the national scene?

I'm surprised the Democrats are using the same attacks that the Republicans used against Kerry. I thought they (D) were more creative than that.

Kotori - what noticeable year is missing? *cough* Eagleton *cough*

I only highlighted the winners and how marginal their veep choices were. I skipped all the re-election years, because the tickets were the same. 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2004. Besides, it was McGovern-Shriver on the ballot.
