Proud....proud that I am going to be a part of history.

Come January 2009, the USA will either have it's first black President or it's first woman VP.

I'm still not sure who I will vote for...got lots of research to do.

But...ain't it beautiful?:)

Going for firsts is all very well, and many of us thought so about our first ever woman prime minister. Margaret Thatcher. What a huge mistake that turned out to be. As far as I'm concerned, her gender was the only positive thing going for her, at first. Very quickly, she made me ashamed to be a woman.

And looking at the profile of your 'first woman', I'm not sure I'd be jumping up and down for her either. Anti-abortion? Creationism in school? Remove polar bears from the endangered list, so we can drill for oil where they live? Ye gods. What a pleasant little woman she's turning out to be, and in the overall of things, a perfect Republican Choice.

I've got quite a soft spot for Maggie, actually. She was iconic. Sure, she shut down the Welsh coal mines and made an awful lot of people unemployed and poverty-stricken, but wow, what a woman! She rode in a tank with a scarf tied around her head when our overseas territories were invaded. She stood by her convictions. And most of all she made it to the very top in a man's world nearly THIRTY years ago.

Last weekend I read an article by her daughter and ended up in tears. The title was "I always thought of Mum as being 100% cast-iron damage-proof", and then it charted the Iron Lady's struggle with dementia. Regardless of her politics, for a woman who was alwaus so mentally sharp and strong I found it really upsetting.

Never wanted her as PM again, but I always gained comfort from the thought that if a big war broke out she'd always be there on hand to get in her little tank, face the enemy head on and whip his ass again with her razor mind and iron will.

I'm the last person in the world who'd vote Tory, and my country suffered more than most as a result of her policies. But in my mind she'll always be a 20th century Boudicca. Absolutely legendary woman, and I won't hear too many negative things be said of her.

Well, our current chancellor Mrs Merkel is doing much better than most expected - even I think she is doing a good job, and I am coming from the opposite side of the political spectrum.

I'm awake enough to have a mood now, and it's "hungry". I'm in full-scale cooking mode. It's a bit of a pisser, because half the house is currently on a diet and we can't have anything considered "heavy" or "heart-attack inducing"

So, after much deliberation, tonight's menu consists of:

Peach, prosciutto, rocket and mozzarella salad
Oven-baked sweet potatoes with chilli and thyme
Spicy bbq chicken wings

I haven't figured dessert yet, but I'm sure I will :D

Yes'm.

I read the same article, and I ewill admit, it did make me very very sad.

Sounds good to me. Do we get that next week??

Supper for us tonight will consist of whatever I can put together after Min has been slogging her guts out at work, and I'm trying to sort out the house ready for a visit from the lovely Becca. Add to that a very early start for a long overdue visit to the oldies tomorrow.

At the moment, I'm trying to work up the energy to sort out the spare room and clean the bathroom. *sigh*

If the country wasn't so screwed up right now I would say we live in strange and exciting times. But as it stands right now, I'm a little more scared than anything else...

__

My mood: A little tired, and not looking forward to working out again so soon after my last workout. But my lesson needed to be rescheduled to avoid the holiday, so here we are

Pooped.
Taking a well earned break, after emptying the spare room of all the detritus (into ouor room.......) so I could open up the futon and get it made up......now all I have to do is find somewhere to put all the stuff covering our bed!!!

Oh, and I put laundry on, and polished the leather couches, bookshelves and tv/stand in the sitting room, and the bannister and rails and skirting board of the stairs.

I think that's enough for a little while, it's freakin' hot, too hot for this kind of activity.

Have to leave in around 20 minutes to collect wife and daughter in law from work.

I was talking about you yesterday and it made me want to hop a flight across the ocean to see you and your wife. Much love from us in Milwaukee. I miss you!

Well, Mats, my opinion is nearly opposite. But I am a republican (log cabin republican).

I don't agree with some of her views, but I can say that about everyone.

One reason I left the democratic party is all the BS, all the misquotes and intolerance.

But I respect your opinion and those of anyone else. I just wish that liberals would be just as respectful....but that is unlikely. Just take a look at the political threads.

its sad.

You're right, of course.

It is only the evil liberals who name call and bash people around here, who present untruths as factual information, who gloat and sneer and proudly taunt their politics. Just we liberals with our talking points and our intolerance.

But honestly, how can you make a blanket statement like that? Don't you feel that it is exceptionally insulting to a great many people around here?

People are hurting right now in this country. Many people.

Others
should be respectful of opposing viewpoints? Take a look in the mirror, m'dear.

Your words should work both ways.

I'm snickering my way through the tail end of my summer break. Avoiding poliical threads does wonders for my outlook on life.

When I'm old enough I plan to break off and start my own political party. Keep your eyes out for the "Kick Ass Bitchin' Party of Extreme Awesomeness" party.

When we are voted into office there shall be many Fritos, and much Tab & Mountain Dew for all. It shall be the party for the simple man, who has a warm fuzzy secret heart, just like you.
