Is boredom a turn-on?

Hi all - I'm fairly new here, and have been lurking in the shadows for the first few days, reading the various posts.

So many new threads seem to share a common theme... "I'm bored" or "Bored and lonely", etc..

I'm curious to know... is boredom what truly motivates folks to log on to the Boards? Or is it just a safe, accepted way to cast a line in the water to see if anything (or anyone!) bites?

I'm interested in hearing from you... what motivates you to come here, what catches your eye, what ignites your passion?

Looking forward to hearing from you about this, and helping a "newbie" learn his way around.

the reason why people always say that is because when youre bored you try out new things and you get curious. i joined lit when i hurt my knee and couldnt do anything. i still kinda feel guilty over some of the stuff ive done since so occasionally ill try to abandon all things sexual but next time im bored i always come back.

Thanks Ash, I'd love to hear more about those guilty experiences some time!

So let me ask you this - when you do (or did) sign on bored... were you signing on with something already in mind, or were/are you looking for somebody to suggest or offer something on their own?

Personally I write I'm bored when I am actually bored and want to chat with someone. I suppose if I where horny I would write I'm horny. To be honest I never thought about what writing "bored" might imply to other readers, and I have a feeling most of those who post here really couldn't give a hoot what others might think. It really is a nice, relatively safe place to meet and whatever.

Enjoy the site!

I'm guilty of the "I'm bored" threads as well... But I'd never really thought about the implications. If there are any. I don't know, maybe it just tells people that I am not as easily amused... Or perhaps it let's others know that I am just a lump of clay, ready to be molded!

Or maybe it just really means I am bored... I only really come here at all when I am bored. :)

I don't come here because I am bored....I am looking for something to draw me in and give me something new to try. I have read over in the "how to" board and gotten some interesting ideas over there as well as met some wonderful people here. I have evenings where I am looking for someone to meet and chat with because talking to someone new is usually pretty exciting. And the theme doesn't always have to be sexual. But hoooo boy...when two like minds get together and that fire ignites...watch out! :D

Sometimes I am looking for someone to create a fantasy with me...sometimes I am looking for someone to pass the time. But never do I come here because I am bored. :rose:

(lol...I need to run back through my old posts and make sure I don't actually say "I'm bored" in them now)

Well, I'm on Lit for awhile nearly every night and certainly there are times when I'm on the site and find myself a bit bored - TV has its slow nights and so does Lit.

I've yet to just cast out a "bored" thread in hopes of catching a random fantasy partner, though. The ratio of males to females here just skews too heavily male to make it worth my while.

Besides, my personal ads and story threads (some of them, anyway) are pretty carefully written. I'd much rather hear from a girl who has read one or more of them and found something that interests her than someone who is just taking a flier on a random thread and a random guy.

I believe the "I'm bored" line is just another societal opener, much like "what's new" or "do you have the time?".

Perhaps some people truly are bored and log on to Lit to find momentary amusement, but I don't fit that mold.

I come to Lit for the connection. The ability to tease or be teased, to affect and to feel affected, to smile or to lend a smile. It is a low maintenance connection of convenience, and perhaps that is the draw - when ready to withdraw, a simple click will close this "world".

Does that mean that any of the relationships harvested here will cease outside of the Lit realm? Well that's really up to you, now isn't it?

Intelligence catches my gaze, eloquence (with a touch of timid sincerity) holds my interest. My passions ignite for quality dark chocolate, Rune, and lovely spurting fist gripped cocks. Not necessarily in that order.
** I reserve the right to add more passions at a later time, as I see fit. **

Not necessarily in that order, simply all at once! I know I'm really first, I'm just not saying it. Oh wait...

I'm bored is definitely a 'what's new?'

It can also be an invitation: "entertain me!"

I usually say both. "I'm bored, entertain me!" This is usually followed by a witty response that has nothing to do with the entertainment I had in mind. I think I need to change my angle.

Is it? Personally I find an opening line of "I'm bored" a complete turn off especially if it's someone who continually posts the same line.........I'm sorry but if you can't entertain yourself and be positive, you sure as hell aren't going to entertain me...just my uninvited two pennys worth

And I am ever richer for those two pence. *takes notes*

Thankfully I usually save that for later, apparently the nice opener around here is "nice rack!". Not that I'm saying that you have a nice rack... not that it's a bad one! Ah.. I believe I get myself into trouble again.

Thanks all for the replies so far - let's keep it going.

How many sign on with something specific in mind... and how do you go about... ahem... getting "it"?

How many log on with an open mind and let "it" come to you... and again, how do you go about making sure that "it" finds you?

First and with any luck (or some medication), second, third... last, last again...

It's only stalking if they call the cops - I have a better number to call ;)

I come to Lit with a purpose, although it sometimes doesn't end up fulfilled, I always take something with me for the effort. Be that a "dark secret" to think of quiet moments at work, or a naughty fantasy in the making.

It's worth the drive to Acton! Oh, no one outside of Toronto, Ontario will get that reference, lol.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before - But I was tired and somewhat off my game last night.

I think that many times, "I'm bored" is code for "I'm not desperate".

You know...Just bored...don't actually NEED to do this online stuff...could get plenty of dates IRL if I wasn't, merely by chance, sitting at my computer on a Friday night...

I concur with this thought...you have something there.

I am guilty as well of starting an I am bored post. But this is where I come when I have time on my hands, and if I have free time on my hands then I am bored. I really only get a chance to get on here when I am at work because my peersonal life is very fulfilling.

Therefor I have started a few ok maybe alot more then a few bored at work threads. But I am here from 4:00 am until 5:00 pm, and I do get bored. Sorry if I affend or bother people by continously posting but it has worked and I enjoy meeting new individuals. Next time I will try and come up with something more original!!:D:rolleyes:

Boredom is definitely not a turn on for me, but what can possibly cum:devil: from being bored is. It probably is not the best way to start a thread but it is telling the truth!;)

It doesn't offend or bother me at all-i just never read threads or posts which start with those lines-they really don't appeal to me at all although maybe if good things come of it I should be more open minded and truth is ALWAYS the best way

Greggario-I never come to lit with a specific purpose-just entertainment and a laugh-sometimes even more fun ensues that generally starts from pm's-and Runeblade-I can honestly say that nobody has pm'd me with the opening line "nice rack" and that is neither a hint nor an invitation!:D

Janey - thanks for the objective feedback. I would have to say, judging from your avatar and profile pic - "nice rack" would be a woeful understatement!

Oh dear, did I just cross that line between hint and invitation??

As for the fun - it's quickly becoming obvious to even an aging guy like me that there is an unbelievable amount of intelligence, imagination and humor shared by those who post to these Boards.

I remember an old piano teacher telling me that "the cream always rises to the top" - as I recall she told me that just before I dropped out of class.

The cream definitely rises here... in the very best possible way!

G ;)
