To me, these are existential traits. They can only be performed, not talked about.
 
In the context of the Navel Academy, I see the words Honor, Courage, and Commitment as talking points in a brainwashing strategy, but that's just me, taking a non-military view of a military situation.

From an outsider's view of the military, I see brainwashing as integral in maintaining the command structure in battle, when many people working in concert with each other is the only way to avoid chaos. I see the individuals in the military as human robots, unthinking, unyielding. They have to be that way in order to muster the courage to go into battle day in and day out.

I respect these people for their sacrifice, but I don't respect the way they are used as pawns in a ruthless game having nothing whatsoever to do with Honor, Courage and Commitment.
