Jesus is our lord and savior

Former President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower had a glimpse of the future. He said in his inaugural address: "In the swift rush of great events, we find ourselves groping to know the full sense and meaning of the times in which we live. . . How far have we come in man's long pilgrimage from darkness toward light? Are we nearing the light—a day of freedom and peace for all mankind? Or are the shadows of another night closing in upon us? . . . Science seems ready to confer upon us, as its final gift, the power to erase human life from this planet."

Mr. Eisenhower recognized the fact that man may soon destroy himself. President John F. Kennedy saw the same reality. President Johnson also came face to face with this awesome threat. Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter had to grapple with the same specter. And now, President Reagan faces the same dilemma.

But how may world disaster be averted? What is the solution to the arms race—to a nuclear "Armageddon"?

At the close of World War II, just following the surrender of the Japanese on board the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay, General Douglas MacArthur put his finger on the only possible solution. He said these fateful words: "Men since the beginning of time have sought peace. Various methods through the ages have been attempted to devise an international process to prevent or settle disputes between nations. . . Military alliances, balances of power, leagues of nations, all in turn failed, leaving the only path to be by way of the crucible of war. The utter destructiveness of war now blots out this alternative. We have had our last chance. If we will not devise some greater and more equitable system, Armageddon will be at the door. The problem basically is theological and involves a spiritual recrudescence and improvement of human character that will synchronize with our almost matchless advances in science, art, literature, and all material and cultural developments of the past 2,000 years. It must be of the spirit if we are to save the flesh"

Wow that makes me think a little.........funny, but fruity Franklin has over 3,000 views and nobody can seem stop him! LMAO

a thought for today july,29,2008 from franklin

Revelation 2:16 Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

Repentance means to stop doing evil works and start doing right works, to live righteously. This is such a simple definition, but that is basically what it means.

On the other hand: What had God's church been doing right, in the way of comparison, to help us to be encouraged to do these things?

They had not tolerated evil.

They had checked up on false apostles and proved them liars.

They had hated pagan deeds.

They had endured patiently.

They had labored in righteousness for Christ's name's sake.

They had not fainted or given up.

They had endured tribulation—including poverty, prison and martyrdom.

They had held fast to God's name.

They had not denied the faith.

They had love, faith and good works.

They had watched and prayed.

They had kept God's Word.

These are the characteristics and traits that we certainly want to be known for.

Jesus Christ very clearly revealed that there is hope, even for the Laodiceans, if they overcome.

Revelation 3:5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

So even though the Church of God, down through the ages, has been guilty of those wrong doings, God still has a positive attitude that if we all overcome, we will not be blotted out of the Book of Life. He is very positive in this statement of what He gives us, and His promises.

A person with the Laodicean attitude must change—must overcome, or he will have his name blotted out from God's book containing the names of those who are to receive eternal life.

The way to prevent sin, and to overcome, is to let God's Spirit fill your mind with God's way of life.

Leviticus 20:13

Even a Christian may have some ongoing problem with sin—some point of weakness, maybe even secret, and he has been unable to overcome. It is fairly common for a Christian to struggle with temptation, only to wake up a little later to the remorseful fact that we had slipped and failed to overcome.

Human nature will always be prone to weakness toward temptation, but it should be conquered over time. The same goes for Satan's influence as well as the world's tug on us. The Holy Spirit helps us to overcome all sin, but it requires work on our part. You have heard the old adage "If you don't use it, you'll lose it." That is the way it is with the Holy Spirit. If you neglect the use of the Holy Spirit in overcoming then you will lose that power to do that.

Sin is serious—it has to be overcome—it has to be conquered because our future depends on it. Temptations have to be resisted and bad habits have to be cleansed thoroughly from our lives if we expect to receive the gift of salvation, membership in the Kingdom of God and to inherit eternal life.

Since we are tempted when we are drawn away by our own desires, sin begins in the mind, and that is the key to overcoming is realizing that it starts early on there.

The temptation is in the mind. When we think about the thing that tempts us, when we let our mind dwell on it and turn it over in our mind—whether it is a desire to go some place, to do something, or to have something we know is wrong—then, thinking about it finally conceives. That is, it leads to action and breeds sin.

The result is, we finish by doing the thing we kept thinking about, wanting to do. If we keep thinking about it, after a while we will be unable to resist it. That is why we have lost so many of these struggles against sin because we kept thinking about it, desiring it, wanting it.

Even a Christian may have some ongoing problem with blah, blah, blah. I may wear teenage girl clothes and sleep with men but I'm a better Christian than you because I just so happen to have a Bible next to me to quote from incessantly on a porn board....

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked...” (Galatians 6:7a).

The Greek word translated “mocked” is used only in this passage in the New Testament, though a closely related word is used of the soldiers who mocked Jesus. The word is “mukterizo” (mukthrzw), a verb in the present tense and middle voice. What this means is that literally Paul is saying that “God is not being mocked” by those who hold Him and His will in disdain. Literally, it means to “sneer at”, “turn up the nose at”, “treat with contempt”.

It would describe the attitude of the criminal who thinks he has gotten away with something. He is in his fast sports car and being pursued by the police. As he crosses the border out of their jurisdiction, he stops his car, gets out and taunts them. He's not afraid of them; he's gotten away with it and they are powerless to do anything about it. He has escaped judgment and punishment.

Many people evidently think they have escaped judgment for sins. They think that they are presently succeeding in mocking God with no consequence. What they fail to realize is that God allows such not because He is powerless to stop it, but because He has appointed a time to rectify things, and that time has not yet arrived. It will, but in the meantime even the most foolish outrages are permitted to continue with hopes that another heart can be reached by the gospel and a soul saved before the Day arrives (2 Peter 3:8-10). Those who think otherwise are being deceived.

The Bible tells us that God is long-suffering. Amazingly, he tolerates men's insolence, pride, arrogance, spitting at him and throwing his word out into the dirt. But God will not be mocked. At his appointed time he will put down all rebellion. God has already crushed the head of the serpent through Christ's work on the cross, and when he comes again, he will complete the job. That is the story of the whole Bible, and particularly the last book, Revelation.

Have you ever wondered why you are not blessed even though you have heard God's word so many times? Perhaps you are only hearing God's word but not doing it. Let me assure you, hearing alone can only increase our guilt. Hearing alone can only increase our depression, our fear, and our anxiety. Only by doing the word can we have great blessing.

We must acknowledge that this century is the worst of all centuries in terms of cruelty. Look at the killing of people by Stalin and Mao Tse-tung. Look at the slaughter of Armenians, Jews, and those in the killing fields Cambodia, among others. Millions and millions of people have been killed in this century, and this with the approval of presidents and the rulings of mere, fallible men and women of the Supreme Court and Congress. Why do you think the slaughter is continuing? All of these killings demonstrate hatred for a sovereign God and his laws.

You may ask, "Why did God not prevent the killing of these babies in Bethlehem?" or "Why does God not prevent the killing of these millions of babies who are aborted every day?" This is a mystery. God is good and able, yet he does all things according to the purpose of his own will which, at times, is inscrutable. For example, he spared the life of Isaac when he was about to be killed by Abraham. Do you remember that? But he did not spare the lives of these male babies of Bethlehem. And although Jesus' life was spared temporarily, ultimately he was handed over to die on the cross.

Unlike Jesus, we all are born sinners, subject to the wrath of God and we deserve to die. To me it is no mystery that sinners, including infants, die and deserve to die. Yet the mystery of mysteries is that Jesus, who did not deserve to die, died for his people.

One thing I've learned through my Bible research is that "Judge not, lest ye be judged" is a myth. It's not even in the scripture.

In fact, the Bible encourages people to be judgemental. Explains a lot.

One thing I've learned through my Bible research is that "Judge not, lest ye be judged" is a myth. It's not even in the scripture.

In fact, the Bible encourages people to be judgemental. Explains a lot.

The Bible teaches that Christians should not involve themselves in judging others (Matthew 7:1). God's people ought to decide matters within the church (I Corinthians 6:1-5), but they should not sit in judgment of those outside the church (I Corinthians 5:12-13). Notice that on one occasion even Jesus refused to make a judgment when asked to settle a dispute over an inheritance (Luke 12:13-14).

Those who are converted to God's way of life are called ambassadors for Christ (II Corinthians 5:20). Paul writes that our "citizenship is in heaven" (Philippians 3:20). As ambassadors and citizens of the Kingdom of God, true Christians must not be a part of the affairs of this world (Revelation 18:4).

Man's judgments are mainly concerned with the letter of the law and usually do not take into account repentance and other spiritual factors. In contrast, God looks on one's heart and is concerned with the spirit and intent of the law. Jesus taught that Christians must be willing to forgive others (Matthew 6:14-15).

The Constitution of the United States establishes and protects each person's rights to his religious beliefs. Those whose deeply held religious convictions do not allow them to serve on a jury will usually be excused once they make their belief known to the proper officials. Sometimes, simply writing "My religious convictions prevent me from service, and, therefore, I request to be excused" on the jury duty notice is all that is necessary. Also attaching a short statement giving the biblical reasons for one's convictions is a good idea. Of course, the form should be returned within the specified time.

At other times, one must answer the summons and appear at the courthouse. If one is called to serve on a jury, questions from the judge and the respective lawyers will usually serve to remove a Christian from the jury pool, as the lawyers often see Christian values as harmful to their cases' ultimate success. Once a judge sees that a Christian will not be persuaded from his refusal to sit in judgment, he will often excuse the Christian himself to avoid later problems, such as a hung jury.

Today, God speaks to us through the Bible. Please notice Hebrews 1:1-2: "God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days [today] spoken to us by His Son." Jesus Christ is the living Word of God (John 1:1, 14), and the Bible is the Word of God in written form. God the Father gave it to Christ. Christ, in turn, inspired both the prophets and the apostles, and they preserved it for us (II Peter 1:21; Luke 1:70; John 16:13). The Father's will, commandments, and specific promises are revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures. God, then, is actually speaking to us through His Word, the Bible.
