What a wake up

So it was hot this afternoon and I had been busy this morning. I was up at my usual working day time of 0500 and went in to work for a class. (Yawn)

We get home and I do some work around the place. You know the kind of work. Clean the gutters yet again, things like that.

At noon we have lunch and I'm kind of dragging. It's hot out and I don't feel like doing a blasted thing. I turn on the tube to catch the news and stretch out in the recliner.

Okay so now I'm getting comfortable. I put my feet up and push the seat back so I'm stretched out. The wife is sprawled on the couch and the fan is blowing on us.

I must have snoozed out. The next thing I know I open my eyes to see two sets of green eyes looking at me from close range. Magi and Squeek are stretched out on my chest with their faces right in front of me. It must have been either their purring or their Kibble Breath that woke me.

I love my cats, but they can keep their Kibble Breath.

Our newest tiny baby kitten has gas.

She's gorgeous, sweet and petite and oh-so-cute, but when she's snuggled in your lap she lets go with enough stink to make monkeys fall out of the trees.

Pixie Dust? Hell. Her newest nick is Stinky.

We originaly named Squeeker that because she had a high pitched mewl when she was a kitten. Now she lives up to the name in another manner.

There is nothing like being dead to the world in bed and waking up wondering who just ripped off that incredible one, and finding a cat snuggled up to you.

Beagles have nothing on cats.

You have to be careful picking up Billy. He's like a set of odiferous bagpipes.

If she's already been in heat, you could probably stop feeding the kitten chow. They only need it until six months, and the first heat comes after that. It might help with the gas.

At any rate, she is a rescued stray, and is tiny. Teeny. She's already had a first heat but we could have sworn she was too young by several months.

So - we'll keep feeding kitten chow until she catches up. If she catches up.

But with her appetite, I think she'll fill out her skinny legs.

Not only do my hundred pound babies make my eyes water, lately they've been audible, too!

And the boy has now discovered how to belch, as well. *shudder* Kibble breath, indeed.

That being said, the darlinghandsomeboy is just on the edge of fifteen now. A remarkably unusual child who refused chocolate and most candy, has recently developed a passion for salads, he has a great, well-balanced diet with little garbage food.

Suddenly, he's decided he's allergic to water. Soap gives him hives. He does practice quite stringent dental hygiene, but...

I think he's practicing necro-cannabilism when I'm not looking. That boy's breath is almost bad enough to cause nausea.

We already did, but that's a terrific suggestion!

She is gaining weight, she's filled out. She was nearly count-every-rib thin when we rescued her and she looks very healthy now.

The first three days she slept with one foot on the food dish, poor love. She didn't stop eating. We try to keep little bowls of food scattered around so she can nibble. It makes her feel safer to have food always available, we think.

But her fur feels wonderful, her eyes are bright, she's loving and snuggly and eats hungrily but not like she's starving. She's just tiny - tiny head, tiny feet, small and dainty features.

We aren't certain what she'll look like full grown. Probably still on the dainty side.

Really, kitten chow only for the first four months, with a few extra months for the skinny ones. Most of them don't need the extra calories and fats after six months. As long as she is not becoming overweight, the kitten chow won't hurt her.

I remember your first posting a thread about her in March, so she has to be at least six months old now. It's quite likely that she missed too many meals after she was weaned. She will fill out over the next six months, but she probably will not grow any taller or longer. The growth plates in cats close at six to seven months. Do you happen to remember if she had baby teeth when she came to you? Kittens usually lose those at four months, so if she already had adult teeth then, she was at least four months in March.

We've had cats forever, and by her size we just assumed she was 8 weeks or so when we took her in. Tiny ears, tiny whiskers, very short tail - she certainly did eat everything we gave her. But I have a feeling you're right, and her milk teeth were already gone. She was probably closer to 4 months at that time, just malnourished.

Shocked the hell out of us when she went into heat.

Her tail has grown, her legs have grown, but her features are indeed petite.

You know we have another cat with blunted extremities - the mama kitty we rescued from our idiot neighbors. She was on litter number two when we took her in. We had to, they were letting her indiscriminately breed outside. We found homes for the kittens from both litters (kept a couple ourselves) and kept mama.

Mama kitty (Midnight) must have bred at her first heat. Her head is tiny, her legs and toes are very teeny, her tail is kitten short. But her tummy looks sort of bowling ball-ish.

Courage the cowardly dog? Have you seen that cartoon? That is what her tiny toes look like.

I'll have to get a better picture to post of Midnight - mama kitty. I hope it doesn't cause her problems when she gets older but having two litters at such a young age really stunted her growth.

As long as Pixie/Stinky is healthy, we don't care how big or small she gets. We do have an appointment to get her fixed next month - love our vet - we are waiting until she puts on some weight.

I think she'll be good to go then.

Except for the gas.

If you switch her to raw meat, she probably won't be very gassy. I find kibble is the fart killer...
When I got my dog (a rescue) she had VICIOUS gas, and she came with a bag of Science Diet.. or as someone once told me, just take the T off the end!
I switched her to raw meat and now she doesn't have gas (unless I give her too much liver!) and her hot spots went away and now her coat is beautiful instead of like straw...

T'know, that could be a description of Juliet (the Burmese Princess). She came to us as a "retired" queen at 2 and a half years old. She'd had three litters in that time
