Welcome to the AH KarmaKitty. You'll find we're a pretty nice group that doesn't usually bite (unless you ask). They can be pretty helpful too if you can work your way past the threadjacks
The rookie hazing can have it's tough moments, but don't let it scare you off. And don't forget, you get your own avatar (little picture under your name) after 100 posts -- and AH rules state you need to post a fully-nude shot of yourself for at least the first week

There are more, but that gives you a head start, at least.
- Never use PINK when posting in Abstrusions (and posting in colors with big fonts guarantees no one will take anything you say seriously)
- Never refer to Svenskaflicka as "Sven"
- Don't enter a political discussion unless you don't mind the occasional black eye or hurt feelings (we can be rather hot-headed at times...especially me)
- "THE Question" refers to the inevitable thread started by someone who's never posted in here: "How long will it take my story to post?" If you ask, be prepared for the variety of answers you'll receive.
- The answer to everything is "42."
- Read anything amicus posts with a sense of humor. He makes very little sense.
- JAMESBJOHNSON is our pet poo-flinging monkey. Pay even less attention to anything he says.
- srplt is the resident know-it-all - well, he thinks he is. Sometimes we humor him.
- If you see the odd reference to garderrobes or hedgehogs, don't ask
- Don't take scouries seriously. He has Napoleon syndrome
- Contests are a cutthroat business, but a good way to get new readers

Keep a copy of cloudy's list handy when you need to refer back to it because it's pretty good advice to start out with.....particularly the part about scouries. You'll know what she means when you stumble on his thread.
As far as your AV, just pick whatever you want.
