When Fox News Is the Story

There is a Fox news? Does this imply that somewhere amidst the spleen-filled bilge is journalism? Whodda thunk?

Somebody at the New York Times doesn't like Fox News? Imagine that.

I call Fox News 'The Ministry Of Truth'. I've been doing that ever since they made Mark Foley a Democrat.

I'm struck, looking at those pictures, how much what they're doing is similar to what the Soviet Union and Pravda (Truth) used to do.

Shrugs. What you resist you become.

"Fox News found a huge runway and enormous success by setting aside the conventions of bloodless objectivity."

BWHAHAHAHAHA! As if the liberal mainstream media hadn't done that decades ago!

You know how to tell a liberal? They deny that the MSM has liberal bias, and claim it's "objective."

You know how to tell a conservative or libertarian? The believe the respectable information sources on their own side convey objective reality.

Each side can perceive the journalistic bias of the other side, but naturally view their own information providers as "objective" because they convey their own wordview.

Having had their consciousness raised by decades of absurd claims from lefties that the MSM is "objective," fewer of those on the other side actively claim that Fox and other right-of-center press organs are POVN.

~~~~~
BTW, here's how to tell a person who's a bit more politically sophisticated (like me ;) ) - they can perceive the POV inherent in both sides' information.
They have a new name then. "Faux News"
Although with their history I am quite certain I am not the first person to use that.
It's always amusing to see the letters to the editor first lambast the L.A. Times for being a left-wing rag and a couple of days later read another calling them lackies of the military/industrial complex. Faux News exists because the Big Three got so provincial along the BosWash corridor that they actually believed they were being objective. Now the Left, such tatters as remain, runs in terror. They cling to what little influence they have in primaries only to watch their favored candidate immediately turn right in order to win the general election. Obama's brave words about "troop withdrawal" have already been modified to include "advice from commanders in the field". Hearts will be broken again. Is a good thing I'm so detached from most everything. Saves emotional stress. Even Roxie can't upset me. :D
As Jon Stewart once put it...(paraphrased)
Its almost as if the main stream media has completely abdicated its responsibility to the public at large.
Snerk The mainstream media's responsibility today is more to the stockholders of the companies who own it.
Actually Roxanne, I don't regard any of the media as unbiased. All of us are biased in some way. The only unbiased person in existence is God.
I never make the mistake of assuming I'm God, or that She speaks to me. Unlike Fox News.
And unlike the MSM.
Roger that - see the edited version of my post.
Sorry, Rox. I don't buy it anymore.
It's like discussing politics with my parents. They know the country has been fucked for the past 8 years but they just can't quite part company with the party they voted for.
So instead, they trash ALL politicians. In that way, it won't seem as if they've been duped, you see.
I point out to obvious deceptions, they say, "Well, they ALL lie. They ALL do this. They ALL do that."
Enough. Call them what they are.
Jon Stewart runs a comedy show - not the news. I don't expect to get nonbiased reporting of anything.
FOX consistently presents themselves as nonbiased. They're full of shit.
Not only are they full of shit, but they attack the credibility of anyone who dares question them. What the hell is that about?
See my response to RG, and the edited version of my post.
The MSM claim just as fervently that they are unbiased - the article you posted conveys this affectation - and are just as full of shit when they do.
Being black he was guilty in many people's minds. And being a celebrity he was just as innocent in others.
It was interesting, watching that play out. "Which would win?" I'd ask myself. "Our dislike of the different or our worship of the famous."
And both did! :D
FOX news is out of control. Do other forms of media have the PR machine in place to publicly attack journalists when someone dares to do a story on them?
No, they have "Media Matters" and related Soros-funded entities to do that for them, plus most of the political establishment to do it for them.
Fox news is biased. So is the MSM. People in the public eye who challenge either one may pay a price for doing so. They need to deal with it.
Remember when Time magazine ran a story on O.J. Simpson's arrest? They put his mugshot on the cover and they altered it slightly.
Newsweek on the left unaltered, Time on the right.
It angered many. It seemed to be deciding he was already guilty.
My take is this: Fox is a throwback to the days of the individually owned newspapers that produced the term "yellow journalism" putting forth an unapologetic, attack-dog outlook that has been a commercial success. This, BTW, is the kind of reportage that the Founders hand in mind when they wrote the First Amendment, I suspect. The MSM, a couple of generations back, decided that such things were beneath them and that what they needed to become was more "professional". Increased professionalism resulted in increased respectability and great access to the corridors of power. We become those with whom we associate and when the ultimate professional goal of a really skilled reporter was to be assigned to the political coverage in Washington there was absolutely no way they could avoid developing the Centrist views of a city that thinks of itself as the Navel of the World.
Let us face reality. Even Pat Buchanan favors the same expensive suits, drinks the same choice wines and attends the same exclusive parties as all his less colorful compatriots. His 'outsider' writings are affected to sell because, like us little fish down here in the Lit pond, he writes for attention . . . and hopefully money.
The others have become those who they cover, the chattering classes. They may truly believe down in their hearts that they offer an unbiased view of the world to their viewers and readers but that view is, to quote a character in Starship Troopers "not stupid, merely ignorant and predjudiced by their environment."
The World as Seen From Under a Panama Brim.
