My newest story has been having an odd run of votings. Everytime I get the "H" someone gives me a 4 vote and takes the "H" away. It's happened for like the last 8 votes. I get a 5 and the "H", do a little happy dance, then I get a 4, lose the "H" and start moping.

Maybe my vote will help.

I liked it - I need to read more in the series.

Thanks Sarah ;)

Although, I now feel compelled to say, I wasn't asking for votes. More I was wondering if I'd attracted some sort of passive aggressive troll. The mindset of, "Well, it's an alright story, but it really shouldn't get an "H""

I didn't see it as fishing. :)

I have someone who keeps voting down this particular romance story I have.

When you don't have that many votes it does make a difference.

They were knocking it down with 1 votes which had been consistently removed but I think they got smarter and have now begun to hit it with 3 votes. Now the score is steadily dropping.

Mean people suck.

They do indeed.

The IMDb has an interesting method of keeping track of scores, which they keep updating to stay ahead of cheaters. Originally they just used the raw votes, but some people would vote multiple times. Then they changed it to where only the registered users votes counted for ranking, but everyone's votes counted for the score.

Then they upgraded to a Bayesian estimate, which basically penalizes for having a low vote count, since something with only a dozen votes could easily get a perfect score, which doesn't really mean the score should be perfect.

Anyway, for Lit, I would be interested in a registered users vote, and for the top lists a Bayesian estimate isn't a bad idea. I think it could keep trolls down, since they like to pick on stories in the top 50.

I go back and forth on the registered users voting thing. It is frustrating as hell, though.

I was on the site top 10 list for a while there. I think a combo of vote culling + 1-bombing took care of that ride. :)

Anyhoo, I'm off to read your new story!

You wanna read my romance one, too?
