Ooooo . . . I love lightning bugs. I'd never seen them until last summer on the way back from Canada. They make you believe in fairies.

I saw a lightning bug last night for the first time this year. Made me smile.

That is so remarkable to me - I never imagined there not being lightning bugs until a similar exchange happened a couple weeks ago here. The little marvels we take for granted in our respective places . . .

Let me get my jar and poke some holes in the lid. What was your address again? ;)
BTDT - as a kid, every summer around this time, or at least for two or three summers before you knew - they just get sad and the magic doesn't work the next day.

What is a lightning bug?
A type of faerie.

;)

OK - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly

Ooh - learn something new - excerpt: "The spectacular synchronized flashing by Pteroptyx and other Luciolinae fireflies has potential economic significance. Notably on the Selangor River at Kampong Kuantan (close to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia), it has become a major attraction for tourists which create considerable revenue."
