Merci, love. I haven't made them yet. I was going to do them today but T's oldest is coming over and wants his dad to bbq, so we'll try it tomorrow. I just hope I can get it right. I tried it once years ago and they were tres dense and soggy. Baking will help, I bet.

Whenever I can maka da gravy with San Marzano tomatoes, I get them. They are sooo much better than any other canned tomato; they taste hmmm brighter to me. I just mix a big can of them with tomato paste, a little olive oil, a few smashed garlic cloves, salt and pepper and some fresh grated parmigiano-reggiano. Heavenly!

And Champie, the only thing I do differently with pesto is add some pine nuts, too. Try it sometime. It's really good, adds a wonderful flavor to it.

Baking the potatoes instead of boiling them makes ALL the difference. Also, the light touch with your hands.

Sounds like you've read my marinara recipe. Throw a stalk of basil leaves and a stalk of flat parsley in the pot. Fish 'em out before you serve. Nothing like Paterson gravy.

And don't forget to toast those pine nuts!!! And, if you don't like or don't have pine nuts, toasted walnuts work really well in pesto too. They're a little oiler than pine nuts. But make sure you toast them.

So Bubeleh, I got my wires crossed. BBQ is tomorrow, so gnocchi tonight. I only had yukon gold taters, but I'm pretty sure I have to use russets, yes? E-dub went out on errands so he'll pick some up for me. I'll let you know how they come out. And I had a talk with my fingies and told them, "light touch girls, light!"

Yes, I throw basil in the sauce when I have it. This batch I made a few days ago does have basil. I forgot. I usually keep fresh basil, rosemary and thyme around. Rosemary is my favorite. I think I'll make a rosemary foccocia for tonight too. Make a little bruschetta. And a salad to try to break up all those carbs!

Wow!! Am I invited to dinner?

Yukon Gold potatoes are beautiful, and almost too good for gnocchi. I'd save them for a good mash with roasted garlic and Parmesano Reggiano. Or, bake 'em and eat 'em. By the time you use them in recipes with stuff, you're wasting a wonderful resource. I wouldn't even use Golds for latkes, although latkes are God's food. You and I know better than anyone that latkes ought to be a currency.

And hey, when do you think you are coming south for good?

*drags in, narrow-eyed, gets a huge cuppa joe, sits quietly and listens for a while*

I tried to make gnocchi once. lawlz. They bounced. We gave them to the dogs. The dogs appreciated them, because they were like toys you could eat.

Food is better if it's also a toy.

If I ever try it again, I'll go with Cheffalicious' recipe instead of that dumb cookbook.

*you see bijou over in a darkened corner, at a table full of paperwork. Her fingers are on the keyboard of her laptop, but she is not typing. Her earphone is in and she has an impenetrable, distant look in her eyes.

If you approach, she will smile, pull up a chair next to her and offer you the headphones.

"This," she says.

And of course this.

Hey Sweets!

I'm with you. I'd do him if even if he was the biggest one-eyed troll every known to man...just to hear that voice close to my ear.

No Joan of Arc?

I was gettin' to that. I try to be reasonable about my fierce love for Leonard. He is, I will admit, rather an acquired taste. Didn't want to bogart the jukebox.

But I did do a set on Radio Free Jezebel a while back. Hm, let's see *rummages through pages*

okay, here it is.

I only tested a couple of the links, so they may not all still work. But I'll fix 'em in a bit.

okay, total INTERNET PORN MOMENT in the shop.

Had to fix the link for I'm Your Man and happened upon this.

Leonard. Plus Johnny Depp. I was so overwrought by the end of it I'd have blushed if anyone had walked in.

If there had been even one shot of Robert Montgomery in there I'd have had to close shop.

SRSLY

I think bj is running about frantically in the background looking for her Evil Grand Vizier costume (Conrad Veidt's got it!) and periodically fainting from the excitement.

Quick someone, slap her!

Well, I can't compete with BJ's almost orgasmic yelps at your reappearance, so I will merely say, off-handedly, "Hey, good to see you," shake your hand firmly and wipe the drool discreetly off my chin.

It's the new me. Kind of a Sinatra kind of thing.

Doesn't really work, though, does it?

How about a more straightforward and sincere it's great to see you, we missed you, and I hope you're back for a while?
