Why? Because Lt's concept of social interaction is "mutally assured distruction". People whom he thinks still like him are spared his attacks. His standard for this behavior is fairly low. It helps to be female, but not necessary. She must never ask a question and always be polite and complimentary.
There are still a few people who cling to Lt's memory, before his slow desent into madness. I remember reading a thread from many years ago and running across one of his posts. It seems strangely civil. A new comer to Lit does not have the benefit of fond memories like that.

The person who still sees some decency in Lt is a Lit Unicorn. Some think the creature is extinct and the last ones may only exist in Lt's mind.

Sensible people have trouble with self inflicted injury and most of Lt's actions simply make no sense, but are still fascinating for being totally self centered, yet totally self unaware at the same time.
Its the same reason people visit the Le Brea tar pits. They look at the preserved remains of animals who only wanted a drink of water and were trapped in the goo, while other animals stood on the hill and wondered how good could water from a tar pit taste?

I just read the "fake death" thread, where the whole thing seemed entirely surreal.

There's a confluence of events that takes place.

1. IF someone observed him speaking passionately about things in which they believe or were persuaded.
2. IF someone believed his opponent deserves the abuse and tactics used. (Or conversely excused the abuse and tactics, or never observed them.)
3. IF someone had a charming private conversation with him separate from board events.

THEN the Unicorn exists.

I can understand one, but I think it's biased. Two is a deal killer for me and I'd end up discounting three.

There were two very surreal things about the death thread. The first was someone claiming to be Lt's friend. Second was the idea that a paranoid psychotic like Lt would give someone his password and unrestricted access to his Lit account.

When Poppy died (and she is still dead, bless her unicorn soul) a friend posted under a year old, unused name. I assume Poppy created the account and never posted under the name, but gave the info to a friend when she realized how ill she was. Its very hard to manipulate things after you are dead.
