Hey all,

I have a lovely navy blue shirt dress..beautiful cut, hugs the right places, looks fab, but i am having a terrible time finding shoes. All of the navy shoes I have seen are really frumpy. Black is out, IMHO. White..ugh. What other options do I have?

Thanks!!

I've always thought red looked awesome with navy dresses, and you can always find cute red shoes. Plus, they'll come in handy with other clothes if you wear as much red as I do. :)

P.S. This post is worthless without pics! :p

sandals...white or blue or both

I agree. It would depend on the style of the dress before any decision could be made on what would match. Colors are open as long as it's just navy and no other colors or colored buttons on it.

Navy is rather like black in that it will match damn near anything you pair it with. If you go for a bright color with the shoes as an accessory or two in the some color family so it all works as an accent to the dress.

Red! Ding ding ding!!! I hadn't even thought of red. Yes, red shoes and a red purse would be great! Oh, and I saw the most adorable red peep toes this weekend....

Mrs. Sanj, the dress is a shirtdress..meaning it is a tailored cut dress that buttons all the way down the front. It is a classic style that never goes out of fashion.

The dress is solid navy incuding the buttons.

Sorry folks, no pics of me in the dress. :)

The right shoe in a fleshy tone can be awesome. Otherwise I like camel, or various "brown" leather shades. Red can work, but it really depends. I do black patent sometimes too. Just call me a rebel.

Oh, I missed this before. Okay, I can get behind red, but be careful to avoid the whole July 4th themed look.

ITW, I tried on several pairs of brown shoes that I have and they just didn't seem to go. I hadn't thought of a more fleshy color..that is a good idea.

hottie..the right silver shoe would work. Hmmm...this style of dress calls for pumps, peeptoes, or even a pair of those high heeled "granny" pumps. It is strictly a daytime or business dinner kind of dress.

I thought of that. I promise not to wear white star earrings. :D

I appreciate that. Although if you don't wear white star earrings, the terrorists do win, callinectes. I hope you can live with that. ;)

For a daytime look, I really do like the fleshy pale neutrals. For evening, patent peeptoes of some color. If you pair it with a matching bag, it should pull it all together.

That said, I never wear navy anymore. In 1992 I committed to black as a neutral, and never went back. It is true what they say...once you go black...Sadly, my committment to black as a neutral has lasted longer than my marriage.

About 98% of all my accessories ever have been black because black goes with everything, yes, even navy.

Ohhhh shit. I can't believe you said that. Black goes with navy is the fashion equivalent of 'submission is a gift'!

I agree with ITW on the patriotic thing. I would go with a yellow or an orange shoe.

ETA: orange shoe is the Clementine Clafouti Wedges on first page.

I'm sorry we don't see eye to eye on this. I will not buy a different color for each outfit. There are many colors I despise. I love black. I do think it goes with everything. There are very few exceptions. To me navy is not one of them. I think navy and black can look very classy together.

I like a shoe like this one:

The color is called champagne patent. Its neutral, could be worn with a lot things. And its pretty. And, it has Nike Air Technology. I own one pair of Cole Haan shoes with the Nike Air thing and they were well worth going without lunch for a year. Very comfortable.

Although I swear I saw the same shoe somewhere in a bright yellow matte leather. And I think a yellow shoe in the summer is fun and would look nice with navy too.

p.s. I'm with ITW, I gave up navy along time ago. Although for me it was over once I no longer had to wear a uniform to school... ;)

Silly, I actually will wear black with navy - I was just joking because it's a controversial fashion topic. And I've had some wine and it seemed funny.

Well dayum, give me some wine too!

:D

You know I used to avoid navy but a few years ago my husband stated he liked me in it. So I've begun putting more of it in.

Currently I avoid brown, beige, orange and yellow. For a long time I avoided red. Once I realized that I began to wear it to see what happened. Now I wear it quite often.

At least half of my clothing is red. I used to avoid brown like the plague, but this really deep, rich brown is getting stylish and I LOVE IT. LOL My favorite outfit right now is a ankle length brown skirt and a red tshirt with brown sandals. :D

Nonetheless, I wear dark blue a lot - I like jewel tones. I normally wear my brown sandals with it, and that looks fine. Occasionally I'll wear my black heals.

Okay, I am warming up to the lighter colors but i''m not sure i could do orange. The wedges are adorable tho!

I don't wear black around my face, it washes me out too much. Navy, for whatever reason doesn't. Actually, I look best in olive green but i can't wear that too much and it's hard to find clothes in that shade.

Thanks for the help y'all!
