Which is the most tolerant religion?

Which religion do you feel is overall the most tolerant in it's beliefs toward other religions, lack of other's religious beliefs, human sexuality, and equality between sexes?

The first two narrow the field by quite a bit. Most religions feel that they are the "only one true way", and that every other religion is wrong at the very least. There are a few that recognize that there is "more than one way to skin a cat" as it were.

The third narrows the field even more, many religions condemn sex outside of marriage (downgraded to at least a serious long term relationship in the more liberal practitioners) and outright forbid anything resembling same-sex relationships.

The Final category severely limits the choices, cutting out most of the Patriarchal religions, those that accept only men into leadership positions within their organizations.

I would have to disqualify Hinduism based just on the caste system. They may be tolerant of other religions, but they are much to restrictive in their pigeonholing believers.

But I admit as a Western Hindu I hardly notice the caste system. Mixed-caste girl, here.

"Wicca" can be added to the list of "religions" that are as much a way of life as an organized religion. I put Wicca in quotes because it's merelyt he best known of the pagan revivalist/Goddess Worship religions, but "Paganisn" and "Goddess Worship" include some fairly non-tolerant religions as well as the "Live and Let Live" varieties.

Agreed, the caste system seems to be more prevalent and more ... I'm not sure if 'enforced' is the proper word... in India rather then the rest of the world.

It depends on your view of each religion. If one interprets the teaching of Jesus as the Way of love, then it is shows tolerance for everything you describe. However, as it is taught by most secular religious factions, it is extremely INtolerant.

Taoism is a good example because it doesn't even take sexuality into the equation.

Personally, I prefer my own.

Agreed to a point however, many Wiccans are angry over their treatment and therefore do not fit into the "tolerant" category listed. Because they follow the "do no harm" does not mean they are accepting of others outside of their sect. Again...not all...this is a wide and varying group.

Ok, so are we talking about religions the way they are written or the way they are practiced? Because if it is the latter, then no one really lives up to it but Taoism or Buddhism. Hindus certainly kill in the name of religion.

But I added it because all of my life I have been taught* that "All paths lead to God." And in truth, nearly every household in India worships in their own way.

*These days I am atheist but still consider myself Hindu culturally.

I agree, most (not all) Christian religions seem to be very intolerant in practice. I tend to agree most with those that call themselves "Red Letter" Christians.
