looking for an editor

My first editor was great and I wouldn't mind having him back (you know who you are).

Nevertheless, I am looking for an editor for part two of my story, and I wouldn't mind having two editors, so long as no one would mind.

Basically, what I am looking for is for someone to mildly shape my direction, and give suggestion to help my story flow more. So long as I’m learning and improving, criticism is my best friend.

My story is basically a follow up to the first story, which was in the interracial section. It’s almost 23 pages long with 11,572 words.

Here’s a link to the first story so those that are interested can get a feel of the characters because I am trying to learn more about character development.

Er ... that isn't very long. 11,572 words will barely run into a fourth Lit page, unless you have a lot of very short paragraphs.

I read a lot of stories on here and none of them ever run past 4 lit pages, so I assumed it was a long story, which is why I made it shorter, compared to the first...though it's only about a 1000 words shorter...

I don't know. I guess I never know how long the story should be...

And it should be that way. A story should always be as long or as short as it should be. Let your characters and your story flow tell you what the length should be.

Don't compare your story to anyone else's story.

From that I infer that you don't read many entries in the Novels and Novellas class. to quote a random example Maggie by Paris Waterman runs to 14 pages and that isn't anywhere near the longest.

LadyC is right - to paraphrase what Mozart said of his music "It is not too long, or too short. It has exactly the right number of [words] in it." That is how you know when to stop writing.
