Virtual Reality Sex

I've been kicking around an idea, based on a story I read long ago in Omni mag. About a guy who bought a virtual girlfriend program that ended up being defective, and took over his life, making him a prisoner in his house.

What is the state of the Virtual Reality Sex these days?

Reminds me of the classic Demon Seed film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075931/plotsummary

I had forgotten about that film, something simular to that, but without the pregenancy.

is it the same as cyber sex cos my cyber sex life is very healthy ta!
LOL are you a expert at one handed typing too? :D more likely way beyond that. :rose:
I'm taking Cyber sex X 1,000  Body sensation suits, electric stimulators, phallic and vaginal devices that plug into the PC VR Helmets like the military uses in their newest jets. Eventully it could end up like a Star Trek Holodeck, or the Matrix training "Construct" where there fucking virtully.

Actually, I didn't know that - you're right. The film suffers the usual '70s bad FX problem, so I'll bet the book has aged better.

Probably because one's imagination can produce some scary shite

You can always watch a movie and laugh at the parts that had u screaming in terror. (I usually do this in bright daylight, within reach of a sharp object... just in case)

... What is the state of the Virtual Reality Sex these days?
If you can afford (or get access to) the hardware (full body suit, gloves, specs, helmet, etc.) then the VR is very real. Stroking a virtual breast gives a whole new meaning to the word "software".

I've kept having this idea about Matrix-style neural simulations (except without the giant jack shoved into the back of the head), though not for sexual purposes. I've had a few ideas for stories bouncing around in my head set in an MMOG that uses neural simulation technology (far more advanced than the VR headset in .hack//SIGN) instead of the normal keyboard and mouse interface, your real body lying like it's asleep.

The program simulates every sensation, except for pain, in a way that makes the world very believable. The lack of pain is because the games in my story ideas are designed for the mass market; most games involving the possibility of your character dying and I don't think it'd be good for business if it actually felt like you were being shot/stabbed/whatever.

While I've been thinking a lot on its uses for gaming, this sort of system would open up a lot of new options for cyber sex. Even with my no-pain view on how neural sims would realistically be designed, I still think that sex would be perfectly plausible in the simulation (though people into BDSM might be a bit disappointed).

The only thing I'm wondering about is how your body in the real world would react to the cyber sex in the simulation. Could end up a bit inconvenient.

Oh your silly shadow, think Demolition Man. In the sex scene she hands him a towel and sits across from him. More or less same principle for a body suit, though probably more like a space suit, has places to put bodily fluids. ;)

I was thinking more for spontaneous cyber sex in games that don't have it as the main selling point (like most MMOGs on the market today don't cater for cyber sex), that's why I thought it'd be a bit inconvenient.

The main game I've been thinking of whenever I think of neural simulation is basically EVE Online crossed with some other sci-fi MMOG (mainly because in EVE, you don't ever leave your ship). I was working on a normal story set in that game, but nothing much came of it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I haven't seen Demolition Man. Might have a look at it sometime though.

I thought this might be worth bringing up, because I think it's the first commercially available input device that actually capable of transmitting texture to the user. Most force feedback consists of basic vibration, but the ball on this controller can apparently mimic the feel of real-world surface textures. It's important to note that the ball is also detachable, and can be replace with other peripherals (nudge nude, wink wink).

There was a series I started writing called Virtua Mischief, that I really should either continue and finish or re-boot as a completely new series. The final chapters were going to involve a variation of Phantasy Star Online, and lead to a real-world encounter between the two characters (where they can't hide behind their uber-attractive fantasy alter-egos).

Who needs suits?

Interfaced VR is a topic I've been interested in for a long time... so here are a couple pennies worth of thought.

As far as a plot vehicle for Lit stories, VR is -very- fertile ground. Who's on the other end... your wife? Neighbor's wife? Neighbor's of-legal-age daughter? The neighbor guy, posing as the neighbor's wife? Co-worker? Family member? A complete stranger? More than one of these, all signing on to the same "account" at different times? More than one of these, signing onto the same account at the -same- time?

Is it a person, or some kind of software... an AI, or up-modded animal? Any story can have this as a plot facet, and be interesting.

Even more interesting is a story that makes you think about sex in a different way, or identity in a different way, or the norms we have such as consensus, what our tastes really are, and so on.

As far as the technology goes... if the idea of haptic feedback suits, head-mounted displays and inserted dildos to simulate vaginal penetration turn you off... well, you're writing fiction, right? So do away with them.

Today you need all that mess and goop to make VR work, but a few more calendars later maybe it works through multiplexing your own nerves; grab this thing-a-ma-bob and you're in, because the messages get carried straight from the palm of your hand ( or wherever, eh? ) to the brain. Atonia sets in, and it's like you're dreaming. Except its crafted and you remember all the details.

Lots more ideas, but I'd hate to ramble. If anyone is down for writing a VR story for lit ( or a series of them ) I'm interested in taking part. A group story, maybe?

But what about if someone came up and spanked your virtual ass, would that feel the same?

I just flashed on Lawnmower Man meets Johnny Mnemonic.
You can throw in the real arguments in Second Life about avatar role play.
There are doezens of lactating stories on Literotica featuring baby fetishes.
Does playing the role of a child in sexual themes equel pedophilia?
The person on the other end is an adult (usually the same sex), so a child isn't really looking at anything.

You'll be getting my PM tomorrow.

I heard about this technology, but I didn't think there was an aplication for it yet (technology used for gaming Sony copyright).
This one isn't a mind control interface.
There are 2 companies working on using mind control on video games (Neurosky and Emotiv Systems).

A Very Good Post :) you bring up some excelent points. My first Idea had been that she would be a slave to a computer program, but this opens up a lot more possibilities. This would make a great SRP on Lit, but I also want to write it up as a story.

I loved the idea from Wild Palms: a drug, memezine, that produced visual synesthesia, scrambling sight with the other 4 senses, so that all you needed were high-class VR goggles for full immersion. It's a great pseudo-scientific work-around for stories set "20 minutes into the future."
