I SUCK at my job. No excuses. I just suck at it. Every single paycheck I've gotten has been smaller than the one before it. I was getting calls when I was new because everybody wants to talk to the new girl. Now that the novelty has worn off, I'm honestly not good enough at it to get many repeat customers. I don't know why I suck. I just do.

I'm working three jobs at the moment--two phone sex jobs and a texting job. I'm sick as a dog, and I sound like a bullfrog with emphysema, so the phone sex jobs are suffering. And the text job just pisses me off every time I log in. The customers are the rudest bunch of fuckers I've ever encountered, so I find myself logging out quite frequently to keep from telling them exactly what I think of them, thereby getting myself fired.

As of right now, I still haven't made it into the triple-digit numbers for either of my phone sex companies for this pay period, and it's been nearly two weeks. I'm logged in pretty much all the time, but the calls just aren't there. I'm not getting requests, so I guess I'm screwed. Like I said, I SUCK at this. How in God's name I'm going to pay my bills this month, I have no idea.

*Sigh* There's got to be a better way. I keep applying for "real" jobs in town, but no luck. I swear, if only there were a real demand for pics of nekkid fat women, I'd look into that.

I've thought about it, but I know absolutely nothing about it. Like, just the drinks I mix myself are so bad that I can hardly drink them most of the time. I'm kind of an embarrassment to college students everywhere, LOL.

Look for something you like to do and that you do well. You were an English major, if I remember correctly? Have you considered an editing job for a local paper or other publication in your community? Do any of the realtors in your area put out real estate magazines? They need editors, as well as photographers. (And taking house pictures is not hard to learn to do. I know, I did it for a lot of years.)

Put the skills and the love that you have for something to work for you, whatever that is.

I bet you like to read and watch movies too. Ever think of applying at a bookstore, library or video store? One of my most favorite jobs was for Borders. One of the perks was a great discount. I loved it, especially around Christmas.

Have you thought about substitute teaching? In our district, all you need is a high school diploma (so if you were here, you'd have a real edge on many) and of course, fingerprinting. Nice thing about subbing (HA) is you can pick your days (say NO one day if it's not a good one for you) and you can pick the grades you'd like to sub for.

And the pay is really good... out here, anyway.

I don't know what qualifications are needed where you live, but here if you have a bachelors degree and you go for a state licensing test you can teach (depending upon the license you're applying for) K-12. If you get licensed here you have to get a license in another subject, or your masters within a five year period. I think the test here is like in the $100-$150 range, but it's well worth it if you can get a teaching job. Most schools are hiring now.

Ha haha. That made me laugh. Ahem, sorry.

Temp agencies can be good, but it depends on the agency.

I also agree with ADR about the bookstores. Ok, so they don't pay amazingly well, but it's a start, and actually, as jobs with independent bookstores are hard to come by, this would be a good starting point. Since you were an English major, it might be good to work someplace with people of similar backgrounds, for networking purposes.

One entree into the world of editing that might be available to you is to start out as a proofreader for a newspaper. It's mindless and sometimes numbingly dull (imagine proofreading all those legal notices that show up periodically in your paper and you'll get a good picture of the downside) but it's very, very easy if you're literate and careful. I did this kind of work while doing substitute teaching a number of years ago and the combination paid fairly well. I also had a couple of opportunities to move into the copy editing function but took a pass because I didn't want to work full time for the newspaper. Another plus is that most such jobs in the newspaper world happen at night so they're well suited for someone with a nocturnal bent.

I'm back to square one. I'm honestly sick of phone sex because I'm not good at it. I mean, I'm really not. I can't summon up enough interest in my callers and their boring-ass fantasies to be any good at it. I know that sounds awful, and I'm sorry, but it's the truth.

Kitty and I are about to be out on our asses. I hate this! I log in for 8-10 hours a day with two companies, and I'm lucky to make $10. Places around here won't hire a person with a degree for service-type jobs. And I don't have enough education or experience for a "real" job. The temp places are useless unless you can do construction (which I obviously can't). Honestly, I don't know what to do.

That's a long term commitment. Their's a lady at our church who's done it twice. First off they shoot you full of hormones that make you bitchy and also make your ovaries swell painfully. Then you can't have sex for like two months until the eggs are harvested. And the harvesting is no picnic, either.

Don't sell construction short. Most trades are dying for women in their apprenticeship programs due to Federally mandated standards; and ANY woman that wants to give it a shot goes to the front of the line.

Look up the prevailing rates for the trades in your area...construction is good money, sometimes very good.
