This is kind of funny, atleast I thought.... Especially the last line.....

Not a bad story but attention to detail just ruins it for me when it is
so annoying. Of course you are not alone in this sin of writing. It
seems at least half the stories I read have horrible errors in them. In
your case I will just point out one. I quote, "She lived on the other
side of the state." But yet she was only a 45 minute car ride away? Wow,
mighty small state there! It takes me 45 minutes to commute to work
from ten miles away with traffic like it is these days. It seems like you
would only have to read your story once before posting and you would
catch stuff like this! Oh well, obviously you don't care so why should
I"?

Funny thing is.... the story this person had anonymously commented on was written when I was in CT, where you could get from one end of the state to the other in 45 minutes. I just wish people had the balls to leave their name when they leave an assine comment like this.

I also lived in CT, Stamford to be exact. According to the Yahoo map, it would take some 3 hours and 45 minutes to drive from Greenwich to New London, across CT from East to West [mpre or less.] If you drive from Norfolk to Canaan, it will take 1 hour 45 minutes to cross CT from North to South. Nice try, Slick.

From New Haven to Hartford it took 45 minutes to an hour. So, there you go.... Slick! I think i know who wrote the original comment now....

No, I didn't read your story, nor did I write the original comment. However, New Haven to Harford is not what I would call the other side of the state. By the way, New Haven to Hartford is 43 minutes, per Yahoo maps.

On the other hand, if you are driving from the eastern shore of New Jersey across to the western riverside towns, and happen to be taking route 80 (and not hit any traffic ;) ) it could conceivably take you around 45 minutes. Maybe even less if you aren't coming from too close to the George Washington Bridge.

This is not intented to be a driving thread or how long it takes to go from one part of the state to the other. I posted the comment because I thought other people would find the humor in "You don't care so why should I?" comment. I guess I was wrong. G'day!

Don't be like that! I've been following this with amusement and in the hopes of you and R sorting it out by getting your todgers on the table! :D

Only men would ever argue about haw long it takes to drive somewhere!

Forgive me, but I was thinking the same thing myself! :rose:

You certainly can't get from on side of any Western state in 45 minutes. Shoot, it takes six hard driving hours to just get to Phoenix from the LA Basin.

granted I have absolutely no concept of time, but I will add, that... didn't we say at some point, that if you write it well enough you can wing anything?

That being said.

Once before my parents left the house, then immediately the phone rang. I answered, etc etc. Went back to reading. Then some time later my parents came in and asked "any calls" and I said "oh there was one... maybe 15 minutes ago?" mom looks at the caller ID, and says "umm the last call on here was 3 hours ago, just after we left. do you really have such a bad concept of time?"

Apparently I do. *shrugs*

this could apply here. I may have not READ the stoy, maybe you mention actual time frames, but if I can loose about 3 hours somewhere, maybe your character can too?? That's how I'd pass it off.

Then again, I wouldn't have noticed that... discrepancy. *shrugs

The northern part of the Idaho panhandle is only about fifty miles across from the eastern edge to the western edge.

I haven't read the story yet, but having lived in New England, it is easy enough to drive across a state in 45 minutes, especially if you're speeding! hehe

And if they read your story, and the thing that bothered them enough to comment about it was a minor detail about a car ride, I'd hate to see what they have to say when someone REALLY messes up. Nix that... I'd like to see it, because that is just the kind of person I love to mock. :D

Now to go read this story with the "horrible details" in the writing. lol ;) Take care and never let em get ya down.

Perhaps the state is bisected by a time zone, cutting an hour off the travel time.

Doesn't it add an hour going the other way though?

That would so be a strange conversation to have, yeah it takes 45 minutes to drive to your house, but two hours to drive home again, could you move closer? ;)

That's not true! However, you don't catch me stopping to ask for directions once I start out.

which is maybe why it takes you three hours and Darkrside does ask and makes it in 45 mins :D

Generally speaking however, I think the longer it takes to reach a destination the better;)

Yeah but more dangerous and more expensive. I use mine just for going to the moon. Ah cheese

once you have one though you can go back in time buy shares in microsoft or whatever and then pay for it when you have loads of dosh in the future.

What does moon cheese taste like anyway?

I think there's an expert on the other side of CT from Darkrside, but it'd take a whole 45 minutes to get there... you know, it's just easier to say 'I don't know' isn't it?

Going back to the original point before everyone started going on about traffic, the George Washington bridge, losing track of time and moon cheese, I've been on the receiving end of a lot of good and bad feedback.

The thing is, you can always tell before you read the feedback that its gonna be bad when it's been submitted by 'Anonymous'. If they give their name, they probably like it or have the balls to be upfront.

A little advice to all the bitches out there (and I include men in this), if you're gonna have a go, leave your name and contact details so I can talk to you and try and get some constructive feedback out of this other than 'I thought this was frickin' hilarious'. It might be, but offer me some advice if you're such an expert. Nobody's getting any better by being told they're an idiot.

AH! That feels better to get something off my chest. Much better *sigh*

Actually a whole lot of my positive feedback has also been anonymous and before I joined the site properly I used to leave anonymous feedback. Always positive I might add. Can't say something nice etc...

I don't quite get why I got the grumpy face. Maybe I'm too flippant? But I have no problem with you getting stuff off your chest as long as it's not entirely directed at me. We have a trauma centre for that you know ;)

Moon cheese taste just like creampie but in cheese form.
