Shereads - are you on fire?

I'm not sure but I think She is in the Miami area. I have absolutely no idea where Tom is.

The fires are in the Palm Bay Area and the Cocoa Area. (South of Daytona and on the coast.)

This might be near Tom (TE999)

Thanks, Cat.

We need to ask all Floridians to check in!

It sounds very dangerous on the news.

Thanks muchly for your concern DP, Cat and sarahh. :)

The fires are approximately 10 miles north of where I live (North of Vero Beach), and we can see and smell the smoke. There was a haze from it this AM, but the ocean breeze blew it away. Both US 1 and I-95 were closed most of yesterday due to flames and smoke. We're dry as tinder and need rain desperately. I have the garden hoses ready and the truck packed up just in case.

Again, thanks for thinking of me. ;)

Yes, stay safe Tom -- and all of our Florida friends

And don't try to be a hero with those garden hoses ... stuff can be replaced, but you can't

Watch the wind and be safe.

Thanks for the concern VM, Nero, sarahh and Fool. :)

The wind is half the problem as it sends embers, sparks and cinders a-flying into dry brush and -- Poof! Another one starts.

At least 2 dozen houses and a fire station(!) have been lost in Palm Bay alone.

I don't plan on being a hero, but if I can douse some small fires I'll do it. I have pine trees and undergrowth on 3 sides of my property so I'm on the lookout.

I heard it may be arsonists at work, so who knows where they'll strike next. :(

TE,

Last I heard they are considering at least some of the smaller fires to be arson.

My parents have a place just south of Melbourne so I'm watching these as well.

Down by us it is also dry as a desert and we have had several small fires to the north and west of us.

A lot of brush around our park and in the park as well. People seem to think their ornamental bushes right next to their trailers looks nice and are safe because the areas between the trailers are open. (I hate to tell them just how fast a fire would rip through this place.)

Kind of scary times here in Florida.

Be safe, my friend. I am FAR too familiar with this...

Never a dull moment all righty. Tell your folks to have a bag packed with things they don't want burnt, just in case. Fire in a mobile home park -- now that's scary.

Be safe Floridians.

Thanks Jomar. If it ain't fires, it's hurricanes, or tornadoes, or....:p

Be safe, my friend. I am FAR too familiar with this...

Roger wilco Bel. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Weren't you a smoke jumper for a while?

only if that's what you want to call having been in the midst of firestorms in SoCal twice in the last few years.

I did get diagnosed with smoke inhalation after 2003 and a Sunday afternoon on my Mom's roof with a hose. The fire came within a decent L.T. run, close enough to feel it on our faces and that's quite far enough, thanks.

Be safe, man.

Damn! Only just saw this.

Hoping the wind stays favouable for you TE. And the water pressure stays up.

Whoops. My bad. That sounds like a scary scenario, Bel. You got guts dude!

Thanks starr. We're gettin' easterlies off the Atlantic so that's a help. We really need rain! I have two water pumps pullin' out of the aquafier, so as long as the electricity holds out I'm ok. When it's gone--so am I.

Good luck my friend hope they get the fires under control before they head South.

Okay an update.

They are now saying that the Palm Bay Fire is the result of nine smaller fires coming together. All nine fires have been declared as Arson.

They have arrested a man in Palm Bay. He is being held on warrants but their is the strong belief he will also be charged with Arson. (He was seen to throw a bottle into the woods this A.M. Where he threw that bottle later ignited but was quickly put out.)

The Fire around Cocoa is still going strong.

The fire in the Lake Okeechobee Mud Flats is still going, in fact today it blazed up again and is now threateneing a Mobile Home/R.V. Park. If it gets into the forest of dead Mellaluca Trees then look out.
