I hear that Champie is bringing the lox, maybe TZed can bring the cream cheese, and I just made a fresh whitefish salad (are you listening, Angie?). I just know you can't get this stuff in Kansas. But save a few of those bagels so that I can make some bread pudding. If you've never had bread pudding made from bagels, then I'm about to make your knees weak.

Hi Witchie, I love you!!

You do? Gosh I am all overcome or is that come over?
The very best bread pudding is made with hotcross buns and very tangy marmalade and custard poured over it is completely scrumptious and fattening. I am now officially on a diet as I am suffering from the beached whale syndrome and need to get several pounds off before my next cruise in August sooooooo kindly refrain from tantalising my tastebuds with fattening food that I can't have pleeeeeease don't be so cruel while I am existing on poached salmon and salad. Perhaps you can come up with interesting non fattening things to do with salads which I hate (especially tomatoes) and cucumber which hates me and gives me horrendous indigestion!

Okay, no Creme Brule' for YOU!!

Okay, no Creme Brule' for YOU!!

No sweat; I'll have her share.

Hm. I once wrote a porn story that features creme caramel...

How bout this, Witchling: a gorgeous spinach salad, with mandarin oranges, slivered almonds, a little bacon, a smidgeon of gorgonzola and some fresh pear slices on the side? Pop a little raspberry vinaigrette on that and you have a salad that might actually make you happy.

mmmmmm.

eta:

it's quiet and rainy, and so of course I'm thinking about Musette.

Hope nobody minds the jukebox getting all Parisian for a bit.

This is lovely.

And there's this.

OMG this girl is only twelve. Amazing.

Maybe some nice toasted sunflower seeds or pignolas?

I truly do hate to bring this up at this particular time (Sorry, UYS), but I'm concocting up a Guinness Stout Chocolate Layer Cake for my love for Mother's day. I plan to make a couple of extras for supper tomorrow night here at the Bistro. Any mothers out there care to join in the beer and chocolate orgasm? This may not sound like a great combination recipe, but trust me on this one, you've never tasted anything quite like it. Full report tomorrow.

Love all, drink up. Tomorrow is her day!

That's like, two of my three favorite things in the same place. I'm all about it.

I ordered a white pizza for loststar and myself this afternoon and she liked it so much she said I could be in charge of pizza-ordering from now on.

In this case it was a greek pizza, with chicken, spinach, feta, roasted tomatoes and garlic. yum.

But honestly, UYS' poached salmon sounds pretty good. One thing that is tricky in the midwest is good fish. Although I do have a good place for reasonable lox. There's an excellent Jewish bakery and shop only about half an hour from here.

What would life be without lox?

the Guinness/Chocolate combo sounds wonderfully weird. i would absolutely try that. i'm always for the idea of infusing chocolate with alcohol, so maybe i'm biased. did i say chocolate.....anything actually :D
i'm not a mother, but i will take that beer & choc orgasm. what, i can't enjoy Mother's Day too?
(when you bring the cake to the bistro tomorrow night, slip me the recipe....i promise not to leak it to anybody)

wasn't it was Anita Bryant who said, "A day without lox is a day without sunshine."

Recipe will follow in a day or two. I'll be busy Sunday. Know what I mean? ;)

We have Mother's Day on a different day from the US but calling it thus is an Americanism, I much prefer it's original name here, Mothering Sunday, when all the girls that were in service (maids in big houses) got the day off to go home and see their mothers.
What it is lox? Oh BTW forgot to mention I am not much into nuts either and himself can't abide spinach! But today I am dong roast chicken with loads of veg so that's slimming enough. I can get my chocolate kick by making chocolate cheesecake with fromage frais.
Have just put loads of sprouts plants and broccolli into the garden so fingers crossed the slugs n snails don't get them first! I stopped encouraging Hedgehogs that eat them (do you have hedgehogs?) because one of my Staffie bitches used to kill anything that moved and that also meant little visitors hopping off onto the dog!

Lox: Salt-cured salmon. Served with cream cheese on bagels. Soul food.

At the risk of being called soulless I don't go a bundle on bagels either perhaps they don't do them right over here ... can I just have the salmon and cream cheese ,,,,, no no I will not be tempted I will stand firm

Hummus- and spinach-stuffed chicken breasts for supper tonight, with bulghar pilaf and stir-fried asparagus. And then there's that unbelievable Guinness Stout Chocolate layer cake. It's even better than it sounds, and so incredibly sexy that I might get lucky tonight. Recipe tomorrow. Cheers.
Also, I baked a whole-wheat molasses and currant quick bread for breakfast tomorrow. Toast it and spread some of the left-over cream cheese on it. You might die happy.
Cheers again!

I made bagels again this morning. Tried the few drops of wine vinegar trick and they stayed together perfectly. I made some with fleur de sal and some with grated dried chipolte. Yummy! eagleyez is making us dinner, but I've got a lemon-rosemary granita going in the freezer for later on. You can have some after you get lucky and need to cool down. :p

I will have to send you all to coventry if I am going to stick to this diet my rummy is tumbling already

Man, some days the bistro is pretty torturous - here I am with a V8 and coffee, until shop close, and I'm still not going to find Angeline's bagels at whatever restaurant I end up in.

That bread pudding that UYS mentioned, with hot cross buns and marmalade and custard, sounds amazingly yummy. It's probably more of an Easter fare, but maybe we could do it for Midsummer or something.

It's a mellow, chill day at the Bistro, groovy and productive. I'll be behind the bar designing jewelry until someone needs a drink.

Will you eat dishes made with Splenda? I will make you a granita with that if you do. Or not. Cyber calories are my favorite kind!

So lately, to liven up the evening when we go to The Bar, I've been passing random surveys around. Complete strangers will say the most amazing things on an anonymous survey, especially when they've had a few drinks. I usually just let the notebook float around the bar all night and then collect it at closing time, and we read the found poetry on the way home. Last night's was both productive and completely hilarious.

The four questions were:
1. Best pie?
2. Age you lost your virginity?
3. Celebrity you're embarrassed to admit you're hot for?
4. Inanimate objects you've had sex with?

A few sample answers. To Best pie, there were the basics, cherry, apple, peach, french silk, but there was also:
American
Songbird

and Free. LOL.

The second had a couple of poignant entries too. Ages went from eleven to 24, but there was also one that said "Rape 12, Intentionally 17" and "16 drunk, 18 sober".

The celebrity question got hilarious answers: Barbra Streisand, Jeff Goldblum, Brigit the Midget, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Josh Dumael, Kirstie Alley, Steve Buscemi, (someone else added 'me too!' to that one) Dolph Lundgren, Earnest P. Worrel, and Pepe le Pew.

The last was of course the payoff. It's sort of a found poem so I'll try to write it as one.

Inanimate

Cucumber hand massage motor Christena
Cutup from work blow up doll

paperweight...and it got stuck Couch Plastic bone
Make-up brushes, suckers Hitachi
My numb hand Just the usual

Banana (cleans up easily!) Washcloth
The ugliest pink
phallic vibrator that
a friend of
mine gave me as
a gag gift

A grapefruit
Dildo x2
Does someone asleep count?

I do love those people.

Well I don't like the taste of Splenda but the equivalant we get over here will do lol

Oh blueberry, caramel apple, pumpkin, lemon merengue, coconut cream...I could go on.

2. Age you lost your virginity?
Technically? 18

3. Celebrity you're embarrassed to admit you're hot for?
Well there was that tres odd dream I had about James Garner, but that was a long time ago. Now nobody because I wouldn't be embarrassed to admit I had the hots for any of them. Maybe Lester Young, given that he has been dead for almost 60 years. And I sort of had a crush on Zorak who is a) an alien praying mantis and b) a cartoon. Is that weird enough for you?

4. Inanimate objects you've had sex with?
Besides the standard dildoes? Uh when I was much younger I found out that candlesticks melt into really weird shapes when they spend time in a heated environment.

Angeline, Bubela, I have created a new blog. It is called

ta...daa....

CHEFZILLA'S KITCHEN. It is HERE. I want it to be a fun other place, JUST TO POST RECIPES. I have the password to run the site, so if you OR ANYONE!!! want to post recipes, THIS is the place.

I want to run it to be fun, and informative, and stuff, and I will keep refreshing the link. So anyone who has a great recipe, PLEASE PM them to me, and I promise I will post them on Chefzilla's Kitchen
But let's not forget to post here to remind everyone that hey are posted at Chefzilla's Kitchen as well. I want to make this the coolest food site on the web, and it will allow me to keep my Miami presence in play, even after...
And it's all done because of you, and your incredible kitchen saavy.
Help me out folks. Let's take the Bistro out to the masses.

Mother's Day was great. Details to follow...

And by the way, did I promote the new weblog hard enough?

You have a site called Chefzilla's Kitchen? That's exciting! I think I'll love Chefzilla's Kitchen because you know I'm into cooking, too, as are others here. I imagine lots of folks here would dig Chefzilla's Kitchen. I'd love to hear more about it, but I have to go check out this site called Chefzilla's Kitchen now.

Love,
Chefzilla's Kitchen
Oh. I meant Angeline.

PS The granita was great. I got the texture just right--Cheffy it came out just like old-fashioned Italian water ice. I guess I'll post the recipe at that new site, Chefzilla's Kitchen.

:)

Yes, I have a new site called Chefzilla's Kitchen. I just created it today (enough already with the plugs). Check it out. And, as promised, new on the new site--our new site--is my incredible, almost too sweet to be edible Guinness Stout Chocolate Layer Cake. And thank you for the plug. I'm still working on the design, to get links and pictures and stuff, it's not like posting here, but I'll get the hang of it. If you post your own stuff to it, make sure to link to it from here, so that everyone here can share in our wonderful bounty. Chefzilla's Kitchen. Pretty cool, huh? One day we may take over the world.
Happy Mother's Day, my sweet.

Been there, joined, posted a little recipe. just a very simple side dish but it's easy and delish. I'm happy to take over the world with you. :p

Happy Mommy's Day to you and your beautiful brood, too.

A snazzy extension of the bistro. Things are shaping up nicely over there.
The plugs are shamelessly fantastic. :D Me thinks Ms. Ange should be your publicist.
