Impressive! In my backpacking days, Kelty was state-of-the-are. Ah, the memories.

I have a Kelty tent, does that count?

My very first backpack was an army reject. I'd say "surplus" but I'm pretty sure it was rejected, not surplus. :D It had to be 50 years old if it was a day. It got the job done, albeit uncomfortably.

If it ever gets to that, I'm most likely only looking at overnights or three-day weekends at most. Right now, I'm more likely to be interested in a kayak so I can toodle out to the kelp and fish.

-chuckles- Backpacker Magazines annual Gear Guide is the best resource for research on new items. Usually comes out March/April

Thoughts of McKenna wearing nothing but a backpack on walkabout...enticing.

One of my first backcountry hiking adventures I saw a man taking in the morning sun, au natural. We were more embarrassed than he was (my sister and I, that is. I think we were in our mid-teens.)

Not sure I'd walkabout nekkid, but I'd swim nekkid to cool off. Will that work for you fantasy-wise? ;)

I just so happen to own this year's Backpacker gear guide. :D I'm in the market to update my bag, too, if funds allow. Crikey one can lay down a load of $$$ on this stuff.

Mountains as in mountain climbing. Marmot also makes some good daypacks, I love my Vapor 30, have used it for 3 years, given it one hell of a beating and its still functional. Big thing, if you're going to get into packing again, is when you go to a shop, get them to measure your back. That'll determine pack length, then get a pack that fits right, put in about the weight you expect to carry in it, cinch it down and walk around the store with it. A good pack will put the weight upon your hips, not your shoulders. If the weight is on your shoulders it'll exhaust you quickly.

Excellent advice. REI is having a killer sale (ends tomorrow). Most of their stuff is at least 20% off. They just so happened to have an Osprey rep at the store who sold me my pack. He must have spent an hour and a half with me, but I certainly feel like I have a custom fit now. He adjusted the back, changed out a strap here and there, loaded it up with 30# and had me walk around the store for ten minutes to test it out. Then the custom (heat) moulded hip strap... worth. every. penny. Now to break in my new baby. :)

We used to see that sort of thing 'way back of roads end. I always worried about them. Up in the Sierra where the air is that thin, an all-over sunburn is no joke!

Happens a lot on the Appalachian Trail, when you get way past the trailheads and away from civilization. In fact, there is a guy whom routinely goes out packing for a weekend nude, and if he passes by you and you're nude, will hand you a couple of apples.

Yup yup...if you want to know a few of the good companies to hit for sales, REI is one of the better known ones, EMS [Eastern Mountain Sports], Campmor, and Blue Ridge Mountain Sports are ones I've dealt with and generally carry better equipment. Personally I prefer going to the store and checking things out myself.

I have money in all of my pockets...
(went to A.C. for a poker tournament, lost $121)

Everyone refers to it as the "Dead bag"....it's most handy when one is trekking through the wilds of a concert. (although....the original concerts it was intended for are now extinct:() .....

so now...it's my gym bag....

I think I'm the only one who likes my purple toenail polish.

:( <---what an apt color

Oh well. I like you, Virtuous Violet.

I just pulled a hair out of my head which was black for an inch at the root, and black for an inch at the tip, but the rest was completely WHITE...

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!

I found a white hair in my otherwise brown beard once. It was very perplexing.

I still can't believe someone stole my candy bar yesterday...
