PICHER, Okla. (AP) — Many have fled this depressed, pollution-scarred mining town. Those who have chosen to stay or have not yet relocated face a new heartache.

A tornado ripped through a 20-block swath of Picher late Saturday afternoon, killing at least seven people. The same storm system then moved into southwest Missouri where tornadoes took the lives of at least 12 others, authorities said.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. George Brown said Picher's victims included an infant. He said at least three people were confirmed missing. . .

This particular storm missed us, went south instead.

After what's happening in Burma - and the Irrawaddy delta - 100,000 already dead, possible death toll of 2m, Military govt refusing UN and other aid flights.

I'd take my chances in Missouri over being a child in the Irriwaddy at the moment.

If your govt doesn't give a shit for your life, who else is there?

Thank you, EL. :rose:

I suppose it shouldn't, but the ferocity of these storms still always amazes me.

There may be more dead, too. I imagine those listed as missing will be found dead.

:(

These things break my heart, they really do. Every time I see disasters on the news I cry, my heart breaks for the people involved. :rose:

Glad you and your's are safe. Terrible for the loss.

I was watching 'Tornado' last night it was frightening enough on celluloid, can't imagine living with them.
