I slept in. Had rather a late night. :)

But this morning I did get up around 9ish and now I'm making bagels (hear that Cheffy?), my own from scratch bagels. You can't really get a good bagel in Maine. Whether you can after mine are done remains to be seen.

Happy Friday!

It's in the water. Isn't that what they say in New York?

They came out incredible! And it was so easy! Malt syrup in the dough and a little brown sugar in the boiling water. The bagels absorb it and caramelize beautifully so they're crusty crunchy on the outside and tender chewy inside. I made bagels! Whoda thunk it! eagleyez says I have mad Jewess skillz. :D

It's time to get the eyez out and catching some prime atlantic salmon ... lox anyone?

And that's a ...uh...good thing, right?

And now a bagel maven, nu? Nice, Bubele. You got the secret. Brown sugar in the boiling water. You got some good advice somewhere. I also drop a tiny little bit of cider vinegar in the water too. Helps the surface of the bagels hold together in the first few minutes.

Ange, as a sometime photographer who has taken a few nude shots himself, I have to tell you that that is one kick-ass nude pic in your avatar!!

And I'm looking at some boring old greek thing in your AV because.....???????

(kidding about the boring old greek thing. Some of my best friends are boring old greek things. But still. You have nude pics and I haven't seen them? WTF, as they say?)

Thanks hun .... now back to more mundane things I've just done loads of washing hung it on the line and it's bloody rained ... where is everybody? Have you all emigrated?

Here's your answer for one of us, anyway. Ange has been as busy as YOU have. And Witchling, Chef is still sad that you're snubbing him. He's hiding back here in the walk-in, and I haven't been able to convince him to come out and make the salmon/carmelized onion quiche and wilted spinach salad I was hoping to order for lunch today. Have mercy, o sharp-tongued one...

Mad Jewess SKILLZ! I am SO coming to your house for dinner tonight.

In my top ten comfort foods: lightly toasted bagel, double schmeer, lox, tomato and one paper-thin slice of red onion.

That was my writing meal, back in college. A coffee shop at which I was a regular had so many of us artists and cheap-ass poets taking space all day, they actually put out an anthology of everyone's work so they could at least make a little money off us.

That was also where I had my only Brush With Greatness: I actually ate lunch next to Brian Dennehy one day.

He is a very, very large man. And here's the freaky part. I was in Chicago during the days of the John Wayne Gacy trial - he's a guy who killed a bunch of kids, and made his living as a professional CLOWN! EEEEK!

Brian Dennehy played him in the bio-pic. So besides being really just a huge man, he also made me think about Gacy. And scary clowns.

That's my celebrity story.

How do you stay so slim!!!!!!!

See above, for why she slept late...

Hi Sweetie! So glad you're here. I'm hhhuuuuungry.

Bienvenue, poets,

I would not eat anything that man catches in the Stillwater or the Penobscot rivers. Everyone says it's safe to eat, but we do live downwind of a large paper mill. Ugh. No mutant fish for this Jewess! :D

I read it at Chowhound. I studied my bagelology. Didn't know about the cidar vinegar though. <files away in head under "bagels">

Okay, so this link to the BBC isn't all that funny, but the story's headline would cause a doubletake if it appeared here in the colonies.

Great tits cope well with warming

a night with bijou

anticipation
the familiar breaking through
the adventure into a culture
dance
let it fall away
move with the rhythm
protect one we love
from those whom could hope for nothing more than mediocre
move on and away
into a place with smiles
and hugs
understanding and intrigue
deep words
laughter
page and pen
smiles
and Gothic pets
onward forth
to a welcoming comfort

Spelled right good, M'Dear. Lovely. Both of you.

I've been doing some retail therapy 6 pairs trousers 2 pairs of shoes .. I couldn't decide which I liked best sooooooooo what's a girl to do?

I'm not hung over or anything. It's just that the lights are so bright today for some reason.

Miss Thang and I nearly got into it with a group of sorostitutes at a dance club last night. Fortunately, just giving them the Hairy Eyeball fixed it. We left that uberfrat place and went unto another place which was verily much cooler, and in that place we stayed until they told us we had to go away.

What's a group of identically dressed sorority bitches called?

A Murder of Crows
An Exultation of Larks
A Knot of Toads....

For that matter, what is a group of poets? A pride? A gaggle?

*stretch. yawn* well, I seem to be back at work now. Imagine that.

bienvenue, with all gentle mellowness. We're serving Angeline's fabulous bagels at the bistro today. And no, that's not metaphorical, though one might wish it were.

I hear that Champie is bringing the lox, maybe TZed can bring the cream cheese, and I just made a fresh whitefish salad (are you listening, Angie?). I just know you can't get this stuff in Kansas. But save a few of those bagels so that I can make some bread pudding. If you've never had bread pudding made from bagels, then I'm about to make your knees weak.

Hi Witchie, I love you!!

The first thread I ever posted in on this forum was exactly about that. I'll have to see if I have find and bump it.

My bagels are so fabulous that there are only a few left lol. and I didn't cook a thing today. In fact I was deliciously lazy. The most I accomplished was painting my toesies fire engine red. eagleyez is bbq'n and I'm just gonna make some spicy rice and saute some broc with garlic and peppers. Easy peasy.

Sorostitutes? A barnful of hoes? :)

Fresh whitefish salad? Bagel pudding? Bagel kugel? Oh cheffy, take me. I'm yours! :D

Bread pudding with bagels? Augh! I'm so hungry now!

The shop is an utter madhouse. I'm lurking unwillingly since there hasn't been a single moment when I haven't been doing at least two things.

But I'm watchin'
