It takes 20 minutes to boot up and will only "funk"tion right after I do a virus scan. (And there's no virus)

It's pissin me off.

Spent the later part of the night moving files from my hard drive to my stick...just in case I need to bring it in to get it "Looked" at.

I just wanna scream.....AAaarrrggghhh.....mother fucker piece o shit that's less than 1 year....I'm about to throw you against the wall!!!!!

I have the latest in virus protection...

WHY

IS

THIS

Happpening!?!?

I'm no computer guru but it sounds to me like the anti-virus program is set to run a scan on system startup. Try going to the options or settings menu of the AV program and see if you can stop it that way.
Without knowing which AV program you use I can't be more specific.

You might try to do a system restore and restore to a date where you know the computer was running fine.

Click on Start, Run...and then type Restore in the dialog box...

Out of context, that's just so... sexy. :catroar:

Yes, I don't have anything helpful to offer. That's all I came to say. :D

:D and also out of context, i think it's sexy that i'm the one she'd do it to...mmmmmm

~~~
Is it still being a bum, baby? it was ok for the 30 seconds we were on msn...
Glad you're movin all your shit to a stick though, even though i tooooolllld you to do it ages ago.
Oh, and this would be a perfect excuse to sort through your 'stuff' folders :rolleyes:
*mwah* love you, and can't wait for the whole throwing against the wall out of context business ;)
That's what mine was doing when it was really dirty(not in the usual good way) and I had to open in up and clean it.
And defrag
and disk cleanup
and Ad-aware
and spybot
etc...
Good luck.
if you dont have a virus maybe you have spyware slowing things down.
I re-frag my computer occasionally, to make it quicker for the puter to locate files.
I also remove debris and trash that clogs the system. Duplicate files.
Too many restore points gum things up, too.
So maybe your problem is a bag of simple problems that are easily cured.
You might want to run CCleaner and clean up the registry...too many unused registry entries can gum up the works too.
You also must, repeat, must keep the cooling fins on the cpu clean and free of dust. Is it a desktop? They are easily cleaned. Is it a laptop? Those are a little harder and should probably be done by a pro.
When installing stuff, everything thinks it has the right to start when windows does. If it's not windows then it doesn't. things like messenger (various flavours) , acrobat, auto updaters and etc and a lot of them want to use your bandwidth too. The little bastards.
go find the startup panel (what things load when windows starts) and turn off almost everything. There are a few items that need to start so ask someone.
Go to 'services' and turn off almost everything there too.
along with ccleaner there's wincleaner. Very handy.
Winpatrol, although it will start with windows, will also let you know when things which aren't windows are being naughty.
The new AVG toolbar is pretty good at spotting naughty websites that try to send you things when you're searching for porn.:D
Sounds like spyware or useless files. Download an anti spyware program if that doesn't work pm sal lol.
The image below is a bare bones processes of my computer...
There are somethings that I stopped from running manually:
What is displayed is what is required, except for the item with the red line through it, it is not generally needed and can be killed.
Some processed which need to be there for my particular installation are underlined in red. Anything else you might find in your list is not generally needed.
My computer was doing the same thing. I got a spyware program and it really helped. Also defragging my harddrive helped a lot. Also I got rid of Norton Anti-Virus and switched to another program because it was taking way too much of my system resources.
Now you know why PC's are cheaper than Macs. You get what you pay for.
But seriously, it's all repairable. Have you tried taking it outside and hosing it down? While it's plugged in and running?
Good luck.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Discovered that my spyware sftware was only scheduled for every 4th day. Ran the software and found several hits. Then I quarentined them. All was proceeding nicely....until....:mad:
Then did a system restore and all went good except for my webcam. I keep getting a message to insert disk. I NEVER had a disk! Can't uninstall the software till it is installed. *sigh*
Searched the internet to no avail.......this is a job for......Ubergeekstudmanpig!
Oh....Ubergeekstudmanpig...where are you?
I think I can hear him in the distance......*here I come to save the day!!!*....
Sorry was putting on my cape and tights. ;)
You may not have had a disk but there should be a folder or file that has the drivers for the web cam. Click on the OK then if it gives you a browse, point it to that folder.
Or send me what kind of webcam you have and I'll find the drivres for you then we can go from there.
