Are there any Lit members out there that will be attending the race next month? I will be coming down from NJ.

Speed St.

I'm flying in on Friday to spend the night at Speed Street.

*waves* some of us have the advantage of being from Charlotte woot!

Speed street is the greatest time of year for me, how could you pass up booze and food lined streets and tons of free concerts!

I find that the race itself is not fun enough to warrant me purchasing tickets but of course love to take advantage of the free ticket invite :p And tailgaiting is always a good time to.

Hope you have fun!

Thanks

I hope to have a blast. My favorite part is speed street also. Good food, good drinks, free concerts. They could never pull that off up here. People would go nuts if they closed 10 city blocks.

I'm going to the race because the tickets are free. If we get anymore I'll let you know.

Do you know who is playing this year?

I don't want nothing to do with Coca Cola, especially since one of their trucks crashed into my bedroom a few months ago.

That sucks! Sorry to hear about the truck. What if we called it the Charlotte 600?

He is the best. We grew up in neighboring towns. Had a similar upbringing/ He is such a train wreck. But he makes you feel like one of the guys.
He's definately in need of some intense therapy...but I love my cuddely muffin!

That damn speedways 2 minutes from my house. lord it's a nightmare:)

*blames crazy concordians for moving there to being with and then complaining :p*

I agree it is a mess to travel during that time of year, I live and work there as well, but its part of what makes charlotte/concord or where ever you chose to call it charlotte. I'm glad its there, makes for a fun time of year. I like to sit and people watch. I also avoid the traffic by riding my motorcycle to work that day :p

It's the same in the Poconos. I have a trailer up there and unless I'm going to the race I usually just stay in for the day and hang out. It's only a few times a year.

You do it the right way. Can't beat em so you might as well join em.

Richmond

Im in richmond....I love our 2 races!!! people watching is fun too!! Of course im one of the crazy drunks!!

I'll bet you're really looking forward to the new drag strip!

You know, once you have that big speedway and some smaller tracks...what's one more? I guess it's good for the economy, and with out the 600 once a year the city of Concord would be screwed.

The races typically bring in MIllions to an area. Especially Charlotee for both the Allstar race and 600. People like me come in for the weekend or week and spend a fortune on food, drinks, and souveniers.

I just don't get this whole Nascar thing, someone please explain the appeal to me. I know tons of people who would love to live in this area...it's all about racing...must be a guy thing.:)

Name a man that doesnt like rumbling go fast autos. Or a redneck that doesnt like to get drunk and hoot and holler. Combine with women in rebel flag bikinis and gasoline fumes and that = Nascar!

How could anyone resist?

Must be a guy thing.:)

I think most people would be so surprised by the amount of women that truly love nascar as much as men. I like to hang out in the pits with all the sexy young grease monkeys, just one of those fanstsies of mine, but there are quite a few very good looking and not to mention wealthy young drivers out there that are attracting 20 something ladys to the track more and more. Hang out in Concord and Mooresville long enough and you'll start running into them all over the place, many of the drivers that are local can be seen almost every week at local bike nights.

I started liking the sport because my girlfriend at the time liked it. So it was all a womans fault that I got into it.

That being said, until you are there and actually see what it is like when the cars are going close to 200 MPH and only inches apart, it is hard to understand. There definately is a testosterone thing going on with the rumble of open headers, exhaust, burning rubber, and most importantly crashes! Not to mention the beer ans women. What self respecting man wouldn't love it.

But, maybe you should try to experience a race for yourself and maybe, just maybe you too will become a fan. It really is a good time.

Have you ever gone to Speed St?

Last year was my first in NC, so I didn't realize how big into racing people are in this area ( silly me). I'd be good for about 20 laps and then I'd want to get the F. out of there.:)
