Kind People, in Today's Society

Kindness is the one gift that I feel is completely underrated.

Every major world religion professes that people must be kind to each other. People must treat each other well... and people must be good. I don't mean 'good' as in 'follow these rules and you'll get to heaven'. I mean 'good' as in 'look out for the less fortunate, back up your friends, family and even strangers, and do what you can to make this world a more beautiful place'.

My mother recently gave me a quote from I-don't-know-where, that spoke on love, in a long-term commitment. It goes something like this: "At the beginning of every day, before you rise from bed, look at your sleeping lover and ask them silently 'What can I do today, to make your life more worth living?'." I think we should ask that to everyone, in our own silent way. Do what we can to help people, go out of our way to make someone smile... even if all we do is say "good morning", and offer a smile, it is something.

I've started another thread about mean people. I think the thread deserves to be taken seriously. However, I also believe that this thread, even moreso than the other, deserves our attention- this is a place to share kindnesses. This is a thread in which we can post little stories of random (or not so random) acts of kindness that we witness in our daily lives.

Those that are cruel deserve punishment. Those that are kind deserve praise.

Let's offer some praise to those people who make this world a far more lovely place to be.

A gentleman held two doors opened for me today.

I said, "Thank you Sir."

We had a nice moment talking about manners and chivalry in today's society. I'm glad I live where there are still gentlemen in the world!

Thank you, Furry- this is lovely.

Guys hold doors open for guys here. A girl in the grocery store cafe yesterday said, "Anyone helped you, hon?"

The door thing is something I see often, here... though I think men are becoming afraid to do it, with all of the "I can do it myself" ingratitude that's out there, from women, today.

It warmed my heart recently when I saw two people give up bus seats to an elderly couple... who were very grateful for them.
