They deserve some harsh punishment for that. very harsh

I agree with cloudy as well.. that mother is an idiot.

I've had this conversation before, we need to teach our kids, especially in the middle school years, how to become social animals. What is acceptable and what isn't. Teach them self respect and respect of others.

Can you believe the mother said, "She shouldn't have posted those things on MySpace if she couldn't back them up"?

What the hell is wrong with people?

i think the wrinkle here is not the beating, but the fact that it's arranged and filmed.

as if the girls want to be bad ass celebs, and say, 'don't mess with us.' indeed dr. phil has already approached one, it seems, to appear on his show.

It sounds like Dr. Phil has already cancelled the one he bailed out from being on his show. He claims that it was an overzealous, low level staffer that bailed her out. With 30,000.00 dollars? Dr. Pill (sic) needs to get a grip on reality himself. We already have one Springer, do we need another?

Rednecks. Bullies. Perhaps the girls were just trying to emulate our president.

According to some local news footage, two teenage boys were waiting outside as watchmen. Now, this played all over the local A.M. talk shows about how the girl should have stood up to the first one, got in a good pop, and the then other girls would have backed off. That's all fine and well meaning, but first of all she didn't know what was going on. Second of all, if she had succeeded in laying down one girl, the others probably would have jumped her all at once instead of showing off taking turns. The only thing I think that might have helped her was if she could have gone into the kitchen to get a butcher knife or steak knife. However, I was thinking with the two boys out front, all it would take is one girl to hollar for them, and then they come running in after her.

No matter how this is presented, no matter what the girl said, a criminal act is still a criminal act. Even the police chief said he was disgusted at the savagery of the girls. The last 17 seconds one of the girls shouts that they are down to 17 seconds (or so) and to make the final few hits good.

It was premeditated. It was brutal. It's a crime. Period. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of violence. At least it shouldn't.

Sue I say! Sue the fuck out of em!

Edit: In addition to criminal proceedings.

What do they even have that you could get? They only have mommy and daddy giving them everything. The best that could be hoped for is jail time. They want to sit there and ruin a girl's life, ruin there life. Give 'em twenty-five years. They won't get back into society until they're fortyish. Think of how much society would have changed by then. Look at the last twenty years as an example of technology changes and so on. These girls would then have the bulk of there life in jail. They would have forgotten at that point what it was even like not living in jail. Then imagine how difficult it would be for them to adjust in the new society that has changed around them.

Can't help wondering when I read about these monstrous children: have there always been this many vicious kids and are we just more aware of them now because of YouTube and myspace and the 24-hour-a-day news cycle? Or is there some social sickness that's churning out a growing number of middle-class children devoid of conscience? (And parents who apparently don't have a clue?)

Last week, three nine-year-old girls were foiled in their plot to knock out, tie up and torture a teacher who had disciplined one of the kids. They were caught with all this stuff in a backpack after one of their cohorts squealed.

There was actually a debate about whether the school should have 'handled' the matter without having the children arrested. A parent - not one directly involved with the girls, but the mother of one of their classmates - interviewed outside the school, suggested that "everyone involved should just sit down together and discuss what the issues really are."

Issues? Children armed with implements and a plan to bash their teacher over the head with a paperweight, tie her to a chair and torture her with a knife, and people want to let them talk about their issues? The issue seems to be that a teacher was harsh with a child and the kids resent her for it. Maybe she's even a mean teacher. Unfair. Nasty. Every kid has known one adult they'd like to make sorry for making us feel bad. But not every kid, thank God, concocts a plan for bloody violent revenge and comes to school prepared to carry it out.

I wonder if the reaction would have been substantially different if the plan had been discovered when it was too late, and the teacher was found mutilated in her schoolroom. Would there still be a community of concerned parents suggesting that the school ought to handle the problem internally?

Monsters.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not in favor of Florida's habit of trying children in the adult judicial system. Children, I insist on believing, are worth trying to salvage. But I disagree with one TV spokeshead's premise that premeditation isn't possible for children. What was the kidnap kit in the backpack, if it wasn't evidence of premeditation?

I don't even really know how to react to what happened. It's such a horrible thing.

That's a very good question, monstrous children do seem to be disturbingly common in the news the past few years.

Here is a short list of a few violent and heinous crimes commited by teenagers in Britain:
A 15 year old named James Booty raped a 5 year old girl. He was hanged for it on the 21st of May 1722.
A 16 year old named William Duell, with four others, raped and murdered a girl named Sarah Griffin. He was hanged for it on the 24th of November 1740, but survived and was sent to a penal colony.
A 15 year old named Elizabeth Morton murdered the two year old child of her employer. She was hanged for it on the 8th of April 1763.
A 15 year old named Elizabeth Marsh murdered her own grandfather. She was hanged for it on the 17th of March 1794.
A 16 year old named Ann Mead murdered a 16 month old named Charles Proctor. She was hanged for it on the 31st of July 1800.
A 14 year old named Mary Voce killed her own child. She was hanged for it on the 16th of March 1802.
A 16 year old named Giles East raped a little girl. He was hanged for it on the 20th of January 1823.
A 16 year old named William Jennings raped a girl named Agnes Corothwaite. He was hanged for it on the 23rd f March 1829.
A 17 year old named Thomas Turner raped a 9 year old girl named Louise Blisset. He was hanged for it on the 13th of August 1830.
A 14 year old boy named John Bell and his 11 year old brother James murdered a 13 year old boy named Richard Taylor over the sum of 45p. John was hanged for it on the 1st of August 1831.
An 18 year old named Daniel Middleton, with two other men, raped a woman named Sarah Kempster. He was hanged for it on the 20th of March 1832.
A 17 year old named Thomas Knapton raped a 19 year old named Frances Elstone. He was hanged for it on the 26th of July 1833.
An 18 year old named Robert Burton killed an 8 year old boy named Thomas Houghton. He was hanged for it on the 11th of April 1863.

note to rikaaim

i gave this some thought, and i think she pursued the best course. we do not see all of the situation: she had already been knocked unconscious by one or two of the girls, and come to; THEN they--or some of them--took turns beating her.

that was best [the taking turns]; if she'd hurt or knocked down one of the ones beating her, the five others can step in together and 'right' the situation, completely beat her down or knock her out again. it is a true bullying situation. one girl is beating her for fun, knowing that VL cant afford to retaliate. then another takes over.

several cats share a mouse.

Why is the leading-up to the beating even an issue? I don't give a flying fuck if she was mean to the other kids on MySpace, or if she stole the other girls' lunch money or their boyfriends or was a regular female Damien who enjoyed torturintg the other kids' kittens.

It doesn't matter. And if anything like that comes up in court as some kind of excuse or "mitigating circumstances" it is pure and unadulterated bullshit.

What they did was something you just. Don't. Do. Not to a badmouthing blogger, not to a schoolyard bully, not to a child molester, nobody. There is no excuse and no justification. Period.

Dr Phil is a bigger douchebag than Jerry Springer ever was. At least Springer isn't dishonest about his sensationalist filth wallowing.

interview with mom of mercedes, one of the girls charged

this is Mercades Nichol's mom, Christina Garcia, have been interviewed a couple times. In the first interview (see link above), she said that Victoria, the one beaten, shouldn't have posted trash talk on myspace if she didn't have the nerve to back it up.

In this interview, Ms. Garcia further alleges that Victoria posted that she could beat up Mercades any time, and claimed that Mercades was afraid of her---thereby embarrassing Mercades
