I need to get out or something!!
I am going insane.

I can't get "in to" any threads on LIT.

I even went to the GB ... Didn't even want to pick a fight there. I looked at some am pics...some nice...big deal... I never feel like commenting and becoming one of hundred pathetic fawning men. I downloaded the newest MAC version of Yahoo messenger and peeked into a couple chat rooms! GAD!! only took a moment to remember why i gave THAT up! nothing intelligent...

"Art" chats...not a word of anything remotely like art, design...

and what is up with the Arabic or Persian text posts? is that ACTUALLY Arabic or Persian? or just a new fad using a FONT to look like another language?

ok..back to "self-amusement".

ok.

Do you like...how do you feel about traditional Shunga and it's influence manga today?
What are some of your thoughts on illustration vs "fine art"?

Shung and manga are out of my league.

but illustration....yum.

I think illustration can be a balance of Fine art and comercialism. Most painting or drawings tell a story, so if you think back, stories were told in many fine art works.
The early illustrators...lets say from the 1920's to the 40' and50's...when art was still done by hand and not really on computer....was done by serious artists of the time. They used their knowledge and technique to portray the images that would appeal to us. Today people use these vintage pieces as decor. Retro chic? perhaps, but I still think its fine art.

YES! ME too.

To me..the BEST "illustration" IS Art.
To me, "Art" must communicate.

Communication is the goal of "illustration"...and when done in a masterful way... it is much more...and communicates more deeply... on other levels than simply portarying an object, scene, person.

Hello gorgeous

I cannot add to the convo but I thought I'd pop in for a visit anyways :)

Fabulous!

Like minds and all.

When you look at Pyle and Wyett and Parrish, you see the painting, the art, the technique and the words superimposed over them can just be ignored.

I think that's why I adore Bosch and the Pre Raphaelites, they told stories with their work.

I love the works of the Wyeth's, Rackham, Frazetta, Brom, Phile Hale, Maxfield Parrish, Brad Holland....

and though I love Frazetta..I HATE Boris.

Same subject matter...

I SEE the power grit and sweat in Frazetta...in Boris (Vallejo) I see technical tightness... I see studio lighting.

Ok. That was nice, Abs.

So what's up with the Yahoo Messenger Arabic text? Is it fer real?

I'll start a new thread.

I like Royo best.

I used to like fantasy art, but now I want more.

I've discovered why I haven't been able to draw lately.

My thinking is all wrong. I think too much, I don't "feel"....and I stopped drawing for me.

Meaning..you want more than the fantasy? you want reality? Or more CONTENT?

Royo is kinda cool...but gets a BIT repetitive for me. I understand that to become successful as an illustrator these days, one needs an identity, a unique look. He has that and Art Directors can look to him FOR that.

The flip side, is that one gets Pigeon-holed or type cast.

It is a balance, eh?

I think one needs to continue SEEING... really looking and picking apart... as part of the "thinking" and perhaps become technically masterful..learning the "tricks" (techniques)...but not become shackled by them. I know it is often temptingto fall into the Boris thing... the Thomas Kinkaide (sp?) thing... and paint what the masses responds to.."IT LOOKS JUST LIKE A PHOTOGRAPH!"

You are on target..I believe..in attempting to get that loving feeling back.

I say fuck that! we have cameras for photographs.

Bingo! You get typecast and then lose who you are. I don't want that. Repetive beauty. Is it whoring yourself? is it about money?

I always believed your work should become famous only after you die.

Art should be without pretention. It should come from your soul.

Exactly!!!

Look at Piccasso, he could only go so far until he had to look back, to primal feeling and rethinking. When you become a drone you lose yourself.

Whore.

seriously, I don't see you as losing what is inside you, you are an artist of passion, I respect that.:rose:

thanks!

However, I am as much a drone as the next guy or gal.

And because of real life responsibilities I often suppress some of my real passions and potential for growth.

But what lies within you isn't stagnant, its like the passion is the magma that flows beneath you. You feel it. You know eventually it can no longer be contained......its frightening and exciting at the same time.

I think there is something within me that is stagnant!

Better stand back for that movement, eh?:D
