Thunder In The Mountains 2008. In July in Denver.

Blast it all. And here that's so close to me and there's no way I'd be able to go. Especially not with a guy going with me (no way M would be able to go). :( Just don't have the money for it. If you go, let me know what it was like and whatnot in case I can go another year, please?

I've heard nothing but good things about this one. It's very heavy-play oriented and heavy play friendly. I especially recommend Felice's punching/kicking workshop, it really opens that kind of play up to anyone who's reticent or weirded out by it.

I went to this last year and it was a really wonderful time. The workshops and classes, the popular ones, filled up very very quickly. The man who runs it was a little sad that they had to have separate play areas set up for gay, lesbian, and pan but he'd received so many complaints from the homosexual players that were... sadly, horrified at having to watch straight play... so... play areas got divided.

Aside from that it was really fun. There were 3 or 4o play spaces.. 2 were for everyone.. one was in a Huge conference room and another in the parking garage. The hotel was very accommodating to the kink crowd and was.. SUPPOSED to be booked only for the kink crowd.. however that didn't happen and it is in part of why Thunder is being moved to a new hotel this year... complaints from the mundane.

ANYWAY... three days with vendors open about 5 or 6 hours a day, classes and demos at the same time, play open at night. There were some restrictions... no bondage or leashes allowed outside designated areas so you could not leash you sub and walk them from bedroom to display areas but once beyond the checkpoints it was fair game.

I truly recommend going to anyone who can afford the time, etc. It's a bit pricey to go and stay there if you take in Flight, food, hotel, and tickets... 350 just for the room and ticket, then add in whatever airline and food and you're looking at 800+ for the trip... plus TOYS! lol

Seriously though... if you can make it there.. go.
It gets the Malin's Two thumbs up!

I don't know, maybe that IS the story of why there are separate dungeons at Thunder, but as someone who prefers to play with women AMONG women because the entire experience is different, the energy is different, the whole thing is different, I think there might be more to the story, and I think characterising the gay community as unreasonable and phobic over this is exactly why a lot of them think that pan events do a crap job on inclusivity.

Well sadly i do not have the 2007 text before me and so because of that it was paraphrased some but that IS the major reason for it... the man who ran the event was getting more and more complaints and saw a decline in attendance in 05 and 06 because4 they would not have separate dungeons... when they announced they would indeed have play spaces for different styles of play the attendance returned to expected numbers

i am not agreeing or disagreeing with the reasons behind it, just repeating the basic idea behind the statement last year

Dang. Wish I'd known about this sooner. There's no way I can get the time off work this short of notice.

Oh well. There's always next year.

Three months ain't enough notice?

You're just skeered of me!

*snort* Bett, you're a big ole' teddy bear.

No, it isn't enough notice because I work for a school district and it's difficult to get time off in the summer because that's when we're implementing all of our new equipment. If I plan on taking time off in the summer, I need to at least tentatively let them know a year in advance.

unfortunately, anything in July is bad timing for us as we're moving to Cleveland at the end of that month
